RESEARCH UPDATES

Understanding diagnostic costs for Canadian patients with malignant brain tumours

Canadian patients with malignant central nervous system (CNS) tumours may experience significant healthcare utilization leading up to their diagnosis. Understanding the diagnostic costs associated with hospital-based encounters in the year before diagnosis is crucial for improving early detection and resource allocation. This study, conducted by the team in charge of the Brain Tumour Registry of Canada—a project originally funded by the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada—examines and compares these costs, providing insights into diagnostic pathways and potential areas for healthcare optimization.
