Last week, we told you about an initiative to reduce our staff working hours and to introduce a service charge to make us much more competitive in the recruitment market from 17th May. You may have read in the national press, this week, about the recruitment crisis facing our industry, accentuating the need for action. We had such a great positive response to this. Thank you so much.
Outside life has been treating us well and we have had a brilliant response. The sun has mostly been shining and it has been great to see so many people visiting us. That and our online support is keeping us going, thank you so much. We cannot wait to fully re-open with limited restrictions on 17th May, and hopefully start trading fully again. As good as things are now, we are still only trading at 40% of being fully open is like. But thanks to your wonderful support, we are still here and with a bigger and better offer than ever.
We still have some wonderful Zoom based events and this weekend is the last chance to book on two at the end of this week:
- An Arroz Negro live cookalong on Friday - this is the squid ink driven black rice paella
- Vallemayor Rioja tasting with the wine-maker, Rafa Perez, from Rioja beamed in, plus live Flamenco guitar music

PX Sherry Infused Sherry Bites
If you had our Valnetines or Mother's Day banquets, you may have had some of these for dessert. Made by our very talented chefs, they are our Belgian chocolate brownies with PX infused raisins. Torreznos Pork Scratchings
These are most exceptional pork scratchings we have ever eaten. Based on the famous Torreznos from Soria - strips of belly pork, roasted and fried, these contain a light layer of puffed skin, then a layer of perfectly seasoned dry pork fat, then a layer of belly meat. All perfectly fried then seasoned with Iberico ham flavouring. they are light and crispy and will never break your teeth. One work of warning, they are utterly addictive! Details here
Morcilla Bellota
This is out of this world. It is a black pudding made from the acorn-fed Iberico pigs and cured. You don't cook it, just simply slice it and enjoy it with crusty bread and your favourite wine or beer. The bellota fat gives it an almost buttery texture. Fabulously seasoned with smoked paprika, it is seriously out of this world, and superb value, too. A lot of world-class meat for the money. Try it on a muffin, with poached eggs drizzled with hollandaise sauce for the most exquisite eggs benedict. Details here
Roasted Marinated Red Peppers
Produced by the leading vegetable conservas company, Caprichos de Paladar of Murcia. These are flame roasted red peppers, preserved in a Moscatel wine and sunflower oil marinade. This gives the smoky peppers a glorious floral flavour. superb in salads, torn over crusty bread, or for a perfect simple and healthy meal, try torn over penne pasta with basil leaves and a sprinkle of Maldon salt. nearly enough to persuade you to go vegan! Thank you all so much for your good wishes to Elaine.. so many people ask about her and we really struggle to keep in touch and reply to every single person.
She is now nearly half way through the chemotherapy. It's hitting her hard and she seems to come down with every side-effect going, but her spirits are brilliant, considering. We both still have to shield because of the impact on her immune system, and hope to be able to get out in the summer, together with some good news when it is all over.
