Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols
Monday night we began filming the Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols service which will premier on December 24th. The musicians, camera pro, film and sound editing needed to produce this special Christmas in the safest way possible is being funded in part by a gift from Charlotte Dallett's memorial fund. If you would like to contribute to this production as well, we would welcome your Christmas gift via our website or by mail.
Awesomeness
Our EfM reading of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes this past week led us to a reflection on “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). Job was called ‘blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.’ (Job 1:1). We identified that fear means awesomeness and found this image to focus our discussion.

COLLECT
God, how awesome is your goodness and power
We give thanks for your creation
We confess we are only one tiny part of all your beauty
We ask you to open our eyes to all that surrounds us
So that we may grow in wisdom.

AMEN

Daily Bread Matching Grant
Dear friends,

I'm writing you this note because I want to share an exciting opportunity with you. Our ministry is partnering with ELCA World Hunger to raise funds for our work. With the spread of COVID-19 in the United States and around the world impacting how we address hunger in our communities, we need your support now more than ever. Will you make a donation to ELCA World Hunger today to support our congregation's feeding ministry?

We aim to raise $500 or more for our ministry from friends and supporters such as you, to match the $500 Daily Bread Matching Grant we will receive from ELCA World Hunger, and we have only one week left to do it. This will help our ministry serve our neighbors and truly provide daily bread. Please visit our fundraising page and donate today. Every gift makes a difference.

Thank you for your support! Until all are fed,
Pastor Erik
Spiritual Reflections on Christ's Birth
Advent Bible Study Series begins December 1 on Zoom
Four Tuesdays, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Songs in Waiting--Reflections on Christ's Birth

This four-week series led by the Rev. Libby Wade will draw on meditations by the Rev. Paul-Gordon Chandler to explore the wonder, mystery, and hope surrounding Christ's coming. We'll focus on four ancient Middle Eastern songs from Luke's narrative of the birth of Jesus set alongside paintings from the contemporary artist Daniel Bonnell. Chandler says that in Advent "God surprises us when we least expect it, usually when we are in the midst of a difficult time and need God the most," and "provides surprises that are so much more wonderful than we could ever have imagined." Join folks from Grace Church, Christ Trinity, and St. Paul's for Bible Study on Tuesdays in Advent to look for surprises as we wait in hope. No book to purchase. Questions? Contact Libby. at [email protected]

Creating some Christmas Magic
Provide the magic of Christmas for children within The Sheffield Food Assistance Program. In December Old Parish will be putting up their annual Giving Tree and it will be adorned with stars that each contain a child's fervent wish. The tree will be decorated with as many as eighty stars. We will be carrying out this tradition with a Covid-safe protocol, so it will look a little different than it has in years past, but the tree tradition is too rich not to keep alive. The truth is, these gifts are more needed by the children this year than in previous years. Please help us provide some magic. Here's how:

The tree will be set up inside near the Old Parish church office December 1st - 17th. You may enter the church via the ramp door on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 - 2:00. Pick one or more stars and give a child something special. Buy, wrap, and deliver the present back to Old Parish by December 17th for it to reach the children in time. Thank you for being part of the magic of Christmas!
