Saturday, September 8th
Walkabout Outfitter
4822-J Valley View Blvd., NW
Roanoke, VA 24012
10:00am - 12:00pm

Pre-registered participants will be able to pick up their t-shirts and hike bags at this Walkabout Outfitter location from 10:00am - 12:00pm on the Saturday before the event. This allows participants to have their t-shirts to wear to the actual event and also have any event questions answered before the actual event on Sunday afternoon.

Participants will still be able to check-in at the pre-registered tent and get their t-shirts and bags on the afternoon of the actual event too, if they can not make it to the "packet pickup" on Saturday.
Optional Group Hike Excursions:
There will be two optional group hike excursions - one leaving from the check-in area and one leaving from the main event area during this year's Roanoke Hike for Hospice. After participants check in at the event or after they complete their initial hike down into the main event, if they feel like going on another hike they will be able to join one of these guided hikes!

Grandparent's Day - Cherishing Memories and Making New Ones!
This year’s Roanoke Hike for Hospice coincides with national Grandparents Day! In honor of the guidance and love that grandparents bring to our families, Good Sam will have a Grandparents Day booth setup at this year’s event to celebrate grandparents who are hiking with their families and also for those participants who hike in memory of their grandparents.

For those who are able to participate with their grandparents we will be offering fall themed family photos. If you are not able to hike with your grandparents, we invite you to please bring a photograph or memento to represent your beloved grandparents in the complimentary family photos.  Photos will be free of charge , but will limited to two photos per group. Fall family photos will be posted to social media the week following the event or will be emailed at the request of the participant.

In addition to the easy hiking route (0.5 miles) into the main event area, there will also be golf carts available to help transport those who wish to participate but are not able to make the hike down to the main event area.
Main Event:
Participants will check-in for the event at the blue tents setup in the parking lot of the Explore Park Visitor Center. At check-in participants will receive their event t-shirts, hiking bags, and directions. Participants will choose from two different self-guided hiking routes  (easy and intermediate)  to lead them to the main event area at the Historic Houtz Barn located within the park.

There will be golf carts available to help those with mobility difficulties down to the main event area and there will also will be volunteers posted along the hiking routes to answer questions or offer assistance.

The main event will include:
*Massage Therapy
*Music Therapy

Participants will be able to come and go as they please from the main event area. Here are lots of trails throughout Explore Park. So after the initial hike into the main event and after enjoying a filling lunch with all the festivities, feel free to EXPLORE! Food will be served at the main event area throughout the entirety of the event time.

Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and clothes to this outdoor event!

Please note, dogs are unfortunately NOT allowed to attend Roanoke County sponsored events.

There will be a few picnic tables and some seating options at the main event area, but participants are also encouraged to bring picnic blankets with them to sit and relax with their meal as they enjoy the bluegrass band and festivities!

Volunteers at the event will be wearing neon blue t-shirts. If any participant should have a question during the event please seek out a volunteer with a neon blue t-shirt.
