September 21, 2020

Dear friends,
Tomorrow is the last day for District 3 seniors and individuals with disabilities to reserve a box of 4 free meals catered by Martin's Crosswinds for Wednesday, September 30:

If you received meals previously and would like to receive them again on Sept. 30, you do not need to fill out the long reservation form again, however you do need to let us know. Please reply to this email with your full name and home address or call 301-952-3060 and leave a message with that information.

We need additional volunteers to delivery meals on Sept. 30 between 9 am and approximately 11 am to individuals unable to pick up. Please sign up here.

Please join me this Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 12:00 - 12:45 pm for my Virtual Connection forum with Prince George's County Acting Police Chief Hector Velez and Community Oriented Policing officers.

Acting Chief Velez will have a short presentation then there will be plenty of time for questions.

You can also watch via Facebook Live, but we can only accept questions from those who join via Zoom.

For the past several months, thanks to a partnership between Coastal Sunbelt Produce, Brighter Bites, my office, and numerous volunteers, we have been able to distribute 3,700 boxes of fresh produce every week into the District 3 community through USDA CARES Act funding. Coastal Sunbelt Produce has been an incredible partner -- going above and beyond with their flexibility and support. Unfortunately this round of CARES Act funding ended on Saturday and Coastal was not selected by the USDA for the third round of funding.

Our Greater Riverdale Partners and I are working hard to identify a new produce partner with the hope of only a small break in produce boxes for our community. In the meantime, we do have fewer food distribution locations in/near Council District 3.

Please keep in mind that all PGCPS schools (with the exception of Robert Goddard Montessori) distribute meals for ALL children ages 2-18 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am - 1pm. No ID is needed if the child is present. If an adult picks up meals without a child present, they will need the student's ID number (available on a recent report card or in SchoolMax). Learn more.

Thank you to everyone who joined me last week for my Virtual Connections forum with Board of Elections Administrator Alisha Alexander. Watch the recording here.

The State Board of Elections has announced ballot drop box locations. Those in or near Council District 3 residents include: Northwestern High School, Parkdale High School, the Pavilion at the University of Maryland Xfinity Center, and the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex. Learn more and view all locations here.

Tomorrow, September 22, is Car Free Day in the DMV. While many of us are driving less than usual these days, that means there are even more bicyclists and pedestrians on our roads and in our neighborhoods. Please watch for them! Why not take the pledge to be #CarFree on Tuesday, September 22 and bike or walk to your destinations.

Reminder: If you were affected by the September 10 flooding, please submit a damage report on the new OEM Assessment Tool: This is critical.

As always, feel free to reach out to a member of my District 3 team or me if we can help you in any way. I am sharing updates regularly on social media, especially my Facebook page.  #onlytogether
