The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has released a consultation paper on proposed changes to its Cost Recovery Implementation Statement (CRIS). The paper outlines three possible scenarios for public comment which will ensure that the APVMA can continue to operate effectively and sustainably.

Your feedback will help to ensure the updated cost recovery arrangement balances the need for operational reform, addresses funding deficiencies, and prepares the APVMA to effectively handle future challenges.

Foodbank says millions of tonnes of food is wasted every year in Australia, while at the same time there's been a doubling in the need for food relief. A tax incentive has been proposed that would give farmers and manufacturers the ability to claim some of the expenses involved in food donations.

South-west Vic farmers get $13.28m drought resilience boost

 

South-west Victoria’s green drought might have eased for some, but $13.28m in support will help. A $13.28 million support package from the Allan Labor Government for drought-affected south-west Victorian farmers was a great result, according to a state farmer leader.

 

The package includes co-funding to upgrade water infrastructure if you’re in the region.

A fruit and vegetable grower with a roadside stall in an agricultural heartland says it has been a bumper year for people selling fresh, local produce. Another grower says the beauty of a roadside stall is that you can pool together produce and sell it informally in one place.

Export Market Development Grants (EMDG)

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program, managed by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), provides essential financial support to Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their representative bodies for international marketing, promotional activities, and export training.

Applications for Round 4 open in November 2024, and competition for available funds is fierce, so now’s the time for interested businesses to check the eligibility criteria and guidelines, and get working on yours.

SA: Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant

 

Eligible small businesses can apply for a Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant to help you purchase new equipment to save on your energy bills. The grants cover half of the cash outlay for the purchase equipment or energy efficiency solutions costing between $5,000 and $100,000 (ex-GST).

Grant applications are open until Friday, 29 November 2024, and are offered on a first-come first-served basis until funds are exhausted, so get in quick.

Olive trees? Some Greek farmers now turn to growing tropical crops

Table olive production in Spain rebounds, but falls short of initial expectations

 

Table olive production in Spain is expected to grow by at least 20 percent this year compared to last year. According to Interaceituna, the sector’s interprofessional organization, Spain is projected to produce 492,250 tons of table olives in 2024, up from 408,790 tons in 2023.

Us-based fast casual restaurant chain Sweetgreen has announced that it will now use extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) for cooking proteins, veggies and grains. The brand claims that it is the first restaurant chain in the US to do so.

 

With more than 220 restaurants across the country, that’s a whole lotta people being converted to the health benefits of EVOO!
