Equine Industry Professional,

Tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of the free Ontario Equine Education and Employment Program!

Ontario residents, 18 years and over, that are unemployed or underemployed and not in school full-time can apply by the June 24, 2022 deadline for the last offering of this amazing free program set to run from July 11 – Sept 5, 2022.

After eight weeks of online training on the care and welfare of horses and job-readiness skills, the graduates move into work placements, which has been a key component to the success of the OEEEP program. OEEEP was launched in January of 2022, to help an industry in need of workers, with financial support from the Ontario government through the Ministry of Labour.
Join the Graduates who are turning their passion for horses into careers!
Hannah Knowles
Hannah had virtually no experience in horses when she enrolled in the program. “I went to a summer camp as a kid that had horses. That is pretty much it. I have always liked horses; I’ve always found them really interesting animals."

OEEEP grad Alexandra
Alexandra Atayde

"Prior to the program, I had been wanting to have direct experience with horses but didn’t have the opportunity to work with them.

The OEEEP program helped me gain hands-on equine experience during the placement. If you’re curious, new, or hesitant to try out the equine industry, this program is a great way to get your foot-in-the-door and experience the different horse disciplines."
Tabby Olson
Tabby heard about OEEEP through a friend. “I just wanted to get a little bit more comfortable around horses and learn a little bit more about them. This was a great way for me to get that comfort level.”

Tabby is doing her work placement at a Standardbred farm in Rockwood, ON. “You get to put all of that book knowledge in motion, hands on. It’s really a great opportunity.”
It's not too late to start working with horses!
Graduate Susan Walker shares her positive experience, becoming more involved in the horse industry, thanks to the OEEEP program.

The Ontario Equine Education and Employment Program pairs people keen to learn more about horses with employers seeking help; the program is open to any aspect of horse business: hunter/jumper/dressage/eventing barns, breeding facilities, show barns or boarding operations, western stables, race training centres and backstretch barns, or any other equine-related positions anywhere in Ontario.

The OEEEP program was created by the Ontario Harness Horse Association (OHHA) in partnership with the Ontario government and is supported by Equine Guelph through their online training on TheHorsePortal.ca and the EquineJobTrack.ca site, which along with facilitators at OHHA, helps connect graduates of the program with prospective employers.

Employers wishing to learn more about the financial incentives and benefits of hiring OEEEP graduates can contact Ashley MacDonald, placement and program co-ordinator, at the Ontario Harness Horse Association.

There are a few spot left in the fifth and final offering of the OEEEP program. Don’t miss out on the last session!
July 11 – Sept 5, 2022.
