Shopping local is always important, but it continues to be truly critical as the pandemic continues. It really is the support of our community that has allowed so many of our businesses to survive, and spending your money at local businesses like our Chamber members helps strengthen our economy and allows our businesses to give back to nonprofit organizations, schools, and others in our community. Whether you shop in person or online, stay local!

25th Class of Student LIFT (2021-2022) Announced

Student Leadership Information For Tomorrow, LIFT, is a program sponsored by the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce. The program, in its 25th year, offers rising high school sophomores and juniors in Randolph County the opportunity to learn more about the area. An Orientation was held a few of weeks ago which was sponsored by Kelly Contractors. A Ropes Course/Team Building Session, sponsored by JP Thomas Tire & Automotive, was held on September 11th at Mount Shepherd Retreat Center. Sessions are on topics such as Government, Criminal Justice, Health & Human Services, Agriculture/Tourism and Business & Industry and are planned and facilitated by community leaders. It is the goal of Student LIFT to produce leaders who are interested in their community both now and in the future. Each participant must plan, organize and complete a Community Service Project.

LAST WEEK in RALEIGH:

While there is again little of substance to report this week on the details of a state budget, work has been going on quietly at the General Assembly. The House and Senate appear close to finalizing a conference budget which they then plan to present to Governor Cooper – possibly this week – to gather his input before bringing the budget to a vote. The goal in all of this is to attempt to reach consensus on a budget that will work for all parties before the General Assembly sends it to the Governor's desk for his final approval. Legislative leaders have indicated an early October timeframe for when that is likely to occur.

Regardless of exact timing, it looks as if budget negotiations will run right into the post-Census redistricting process slated to be taken up by the General Assembly in October.

They have a robust website with details and links to answer questions you may have related to current legislation under consideration. Here you will find calendars for both the House and Senate, daily lists of Bills that were filed or acted upon, a Bill look-up field, and much more. Check it out!
