Good afternoon!

We hope your holiday weekend is starting out well. It's a little frustrating for us, as due to some family issues plus some difficulty in contacting a few racers in a timely manner, this Friday Features edition is only containing one story.

We feel it's a good one, however. Justice Evans is in his first full season of Late Model racing, focusing on Sayre Speedway in Alabama (cover image from Zack Washington/ Simple Moments Photography). Last weekend he notched his best-ever result at the bullring, second behind defending track champion Charlie Melvin.

In addition to racing, work and family, Evans is a devout Christian, and he hosts a podcast where he and others from the racing community talk about their experiences on and off the track.

This release was made free to the public. To continue seeing LMD releases in your email box, you'll need to subscribe at a cost of $30 per year. The cost winds up being about 27-28 cents per release.

And once you subscribe, we encourage suggestions from subscribers on topics for Thursday Throwback and Friday Features articles (Wednesday Winners subjects are more obvious). We'll also get you caught up on any you may have missed since the beginning of June.

Those wishing to subscribe may send checks to the address at the bottom of this email. We are also set up on Zelle and Venmo; please contact me for that information at this email address, jimcarsonlmd@gmail.com. PayPal is also an option but we'd have to email you an invoice. We will do our best to make it worth the $30 per year for the subscription.

All of this weekend's results and more will be in the next Monday Digest release. Have a fantastic Independence Day, and thank you for your support of Late Model Digest!

Below: We had planned on including more from last Saturday's Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway, the first round of the Virginia Late Model Stock Car Triple Crown. That had to be held off due to time constraints, but we do join in the congratulations to Halifax County reporting and photography legend Joe Chandler (left). He's joined by SoBo general manager Brandon Brown, with a copy of Chandler's photo from a few years ago of Corey Heim (78) and Jacob Borst (25), signed by Heim. Heim recently earned his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at the Naval Base Coronado street course near San Diego, driving for 23XI Racing which is partly owned by fellow Virginia LMSC graduate Denny Hamlin.
