Good morning!
We're in the middle of the 60th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing presented by Orlando Longwood Auto Auction. (Actually, the last Late Model action scheduled for this February at New Smyrna Speedway is tonight, as the final two nights are headlined by modifieds.)
In this Thursday Throwback special, we're looking back at two drivers who scored their only Florida Speedweeks Pro Late Model victories on Abraham Lincoln's birthday. In 2007, the first year of the crate-engine class at Speedweeks, Dalton Zehr won on the fourth night of that nine-day grind. Zehr went on to make a bigger name for himself in the upper Midwest a few years later (inset image from last fall's Oktoberfest from T.J. Harron Photography).
Two years later, Ohio veteran David Wagner pulled off his first win at the World Series, after trying for most of that decade. Wagner was in his heyday in Ohio at the time, and he still competes in e-modifieds to this day.
Click on the large-type underlined links below to see these Thursday Throwback stories! Then please look back here in your email boxes tomorrow for the final few articles profiling rookie-of-the-year honorees from last season.
To continue seeing LMD releases (other than the Monday Digest) in your email box after this week, you'll need to subscribe at a cost of $30 per year. The cost winds up being about 27-28 cents per release. And once you subscribe, we encourage suggestions from subscribers on topics for Thursday Throwback and Friday Features articles (Wednesday Winners subjects are more obvious).
Those wishing to subscribe may send checks to the address at the bottom of this email. We are also set up on Zelle and Venmo; please contact me for that information at this email address, jimcarsonlmd@gmail.com. PayPal is also an option but we'd have to email you an invoice. We will do our best to make it worth the $30 per year for the subscription.
Thank you for reading!
