Late-Summer 2024

August 11: Visit from Bishop John

St. Agnes' will welcome The Rt. Rev'd John C. Bauerschmidt, the 11th Bishop of Tennessee, for a pastoral visit on Sunday, August 11th, 2024.

Bishop John will lead a service of the Word and Sacrament at the 11 o'clock hour. Lunch will be served afterward in the parish hall.

We are very pleased to mention that Derek and Annette Lofing will be presented to the Bishop as candidates for Confirmation.

The Bishop of Tennessee oversees 45 congregations and several affiliated ministries and educational institutions in the Middle Tennessee region.

Come and join us for this special time in worship and fellowship, and invite a friend to join us!

Constance and Her Companions

On September 9th, churches in the Worldwide Anglican Communion will remember the life and faithful witness of Constance and Her Companions - Martyrs of Memphis.

This group of women devoted themselves to helping the sick and suffering during a deadly 19th-Century yellow fever outbreak in Memphis, Tennessee. In doing so, they lost their lives to the very disease they were trying to help others recover from.

St. Agnes' will offer a special commemoration of their life and service to God on Sunday, September 8th, during the Sunday morning service.

We encourage you to read more about their story at the following link on our website: www.saintagnescowan.org/martyrsofmemphis.html

Cowan will host Franklin County's largest annual festival on the weekend of September 20, 21 & 22.

We will have our regular 11 o'clock service at St. Agnes' on September 22nd.

Please note that Tennessee Avenue will be closed to thru traffic during the festival. To reach St. Agnes', you will need to take South Cherry Street instead.

For more information about the festival, log on to fallheritagefestival.org

In remembrance

St. Agnes' received a memorial gift to the Altar Guild from Dane and Shelia Letizel in loving memory of Jo Ann Robertson.

The altar flowers during the Bishop's visit will be a gift from Wynona Gibson in memory of Charles Ray Gibson and Jim Brown.

"Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them."

Updates from our extended church family

Kathleen Black is improving little by little each day. Jarod stopped by to visit and reported that her appetite is better along with her strength. Kathleen is working with a wound care provider as well as an in-home physical therapist. Please keep Kathleen as well as Gene and Alice in your continuing prayers.

Wynona Gibson is undergoing skin cancer and pre-cancer treatments, but is staying in touch with us and with her extended family. We hope to see her soon!

Frances Weddington underwent surgery in late July, but was able to return home in good time and with minimal pain control. A group of us signed and sent a card, and Jarod has been checking in.
