City of Long Beach Launches The WorkPlace

The City of Long Beach Pacific Gateway Workforce Innovation Network recently kicked off a new America's Job Center of California center, Long Beach/Signal Hill WorkPlace, also known in short as  The WorkPlace . T he launch took place at the culmination of a process that began three years ago. 

The WorkPlace, located at 4811 Airport Plaza Dr. Ste. 120 Long Beach, CA 90815, provides resources to help job seekers connect to free services and consultation to gain employment.  Main highlights of the space include: a resume bar where customers receive help improving their resumes, a learning lab equipped with computers and technology for job searching, huddle rooms where staff members offer professional advice for success, and the inspiration theater where uplifting documentaries and videos are continuously screened.
The City of Long Beach & StartitUp Collaborate to Help Small Businesses Succeed!
Long Beach, a Startitup City TM , is the first city in the U.S. to provide entrepreneurs a valuable mobile app that acts as a “your pocket coach on the go”, allowing business owners a step-by-step process for starting, managing and growing a successful small business. The City of Long Beach is proud to provide sponsorship and expedited business licensing for the first 100 entrepreneurs who join the Startitup app! 
Kiva Long Beach
Through the Kiva Long Beach initiative, Long Beach entrepreneurs can access no-fee loans to start or grow their business, and residents can help local small businesses with loans as small as $25. With a dollar-for-dollar loan match provided by the Los Angeles Local Initiatives Corporation ( LA LISC ), Kiva Long Beach borrowers can accomplish their fundraising goal quickly.
Latest Kiva Long Beach Loans Fund in Less Than Three days!
Colossus Bread and Gusto Bread are the latest local small businesses to receive a $10,000, zero interest Kiva Long Beach loan, and both were able to complete the private and public lending phases in less than three days! The loans, which were both endorsed by Long Beach Fresh, were funded by a combined total of 235 lenders and will be used to purchase equipment to meet growing demand.

The Long Beach Business Journal: Long Beach Enters New Partnership To Promote Trade With Canada

The Long Beach City Council recently approved the formation of a new partnership with the MAPLE Business Council, an organization that specializes in promoting economic activity between Southern California and Canada. As a result of the agreement, the two parties are planning to host networking events, expand training programs for business owners interested in working across the border, and arrange for business delegations to visit our neighbor to the north.
The Long Beach Post: Alamitos Bay Parking: Why It’ll get Worse, and What the City is Doing About It
The recently published Long Beach Post article written by Tim Grobaty , highlights the growing demand for parking in Alamitos Bay Landing and along the stretch of Marina Drive south of Second Street due to the increased popularity of businesses in the area. To address this issue, the City is developing the Alamitos Bay Parking and Circulation Master Plan (Master Plan) which will focus on identifying ways to increase the number of available parking spaces as well as creative ways to increase mobility along Marina Drive.

Founded by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is based on the notion that entrepreneurs network and discover solutions over a million cups of coffee. The free, monthly gathering helps build startup communities on a grassroots level. Attend this month's meeting to hear presentations from Homwork, Inc and Gravity Ball Health Systems.
