1st Grade Reading: The Koala Who Could

This week in 1st grade, students delved into learning about character development, resilience, and the power of a growth mindset while reading our book The Koala Who Could! Our discussions and lessons throughout the week aligned with reading standard RL.1.2–focusing on the students’ ability to analyze the central message of a book. Students explored different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy by recounting events, understanding the problem and solution, analyzing how the character changed throughout and ultimately evaluating what we as readers take away from the story.

8th Grade: Freedom Writers

Recently, 8th grade English students worked on in-class essays, analyzing the intersection of freedom and Christian values using insights from studied memoirs. The prompt required students to examine how personal narratives either reflect or challenge biblical principles on freedom, citing specific examples from the memoirs. This exercise enhanced their literary analysis skills and deepened their understanding of the relationship between individual freedom and Christian values.

7th Grade History: European Exploration

When examining the European exploration and conquest of South America through a Christian lens, the values of justice and power emerge as crucial aspects to consider. From a Christian perspective, justice is understood as aligning with God's divine order and treating others in accordance with His will. Likewise, power is seen as a responsibility given by God to leaders to uphold justice and guide communities wisely.

Servant Leadership

Poverty Problem Solvers Leadership Program

I am thrilled to share with you an exciting vision, a transformative initiative that could shape the educational experience for our elementary and middle school students, as well as Christian schools nationwide.

As we delve into the new year, our school is exploring a collaboration with Convoy of Hope to integrate Bloom's Taxonomy, a framework for critical thinking skills, into our school chapels. The focus is on cultivating our students as "poverty problem solvers," aligning with Convoy's commitment to empower communities through sustainable solutions.

Poverty Problem Solvers Leadership Program

Update:

Mr. Swales met with a national publisher and proposed a curriculum for all Christian schools. His model focuses on two valuable principles, leadership and problem solving. Mr. Swales also met with a group of elementary students to discuss the Poverty Problem Solvers Leadership Program. Students will be trained through critical thinking exercises, problem-solving scenarios, debates, research projects, mock interviews, public speaking opportunities, and networking events. Students will enhance their mental acuity and communication skills to advocate for sustainable solutions and inspire change.

In the meantime, Mr. Swales will wait for a response from the president and primary authors of a renowned national Christian publisher to integrate the Poverty Problem Solvers Curriculum into their Teacher Edition's educational framework. This partnership is geared towards expanding the reach beyond our school, intending to impact Christian schools nationwide by 2030, and beyond. The objective is to assist teachers in cultivating critical thinking skills among students, fostering problem-solving awareness, and instilling valuable leadership principles.

Elementary School Chapel:

The Trinity

In our elementary chapels we have been teaching students about hard topics of who God is: eternal, comforter, and creator.  In this week's elementary school chapel, Professor True Emberwood embarked on a journey into the depths of theology, challenging our students to grapple with one of the most profound mysteries of the Christian faith: the Trinity. She shared with them that the Trinity encapsulates the concept of one God existing eternally in three distinct persons: God the Father, the creator of the universe; God the Son (Jesus Christ), the redeemer who sacrificed Himself for humanity; and God the Holy Spirit, the teacher and comforter who guides believers. As she delved into this intricate topic, Professor Emberwood emphasized the importance of faith in comprehending the profound truths of the Bible, encouraging students to embrace the mystery and trust in God's wisdom.  2 Corinthians 13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

Middle School Chapel:

The Love of God

In Middle School chapel, Mr. Swales welcomed an exciting theme where they will dive deep into the incredible love of God! This journey promises to shape our lives, give us strength during tough times, and fill our hearts with purpose. At the heart of it all is God's amazing grace, shown through the forgiveness of our sins that sets us free to live in His loving embrace.

After School Programs

The goal of daycare is to provide a safe, engaging, and structured environment for our students. This structure includes academic support as well as providing the students opportunities to participate in various enrichment programs such as dance, sports, and drama. Our students are divided into groups with one or two supervisors per group. There is a schedule of activities each day that provides the structure needed to keep the students engaged which minimizes behavior and safety issues.

Here are a few friendly reminders of our daycare procedures:

  • Please be sure to check your child out before you leave. If your child is not signed out, you will be charged until 6 PM.
  • Please send snacks with your child if they are staying for daycare. A small snack will be provided at 5 PM for those who stay late.
