Diversity Is Our Strength
Sunday, June 14, 2020
The PTO wishes the entire Conard community a happy, healthy, and well-earned summer with special congratulations going out to our graduating class of 2020!

This school year has presented many unforeseen obstacles, but we are heartened by the fact that when faced with tough times, the Conard community comes together and rises to the challenge. Together we look forward to a better tomorrow!
Wednesday, June 17th at 9:30am
Julio Duarte will be hosting another coffee this Wednesday, June 17th starting at 9:30am (through Google Meet). If you do not have access to Google Meet, you can also call the number below and be part of the meetings.

The purpose of this forum is to provide parents/guardians with an opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, or just say hello and keep connected with one another.

As always, you can set up an individual meeting with any of our administrators (phone, email, video conferencing) to discuss specific issues.

Hope to see you there!

A Message From:
Community of Concern (CoC)  is  the joint committee of Hall, Conard, and Sedgwick PTOs  working together to educate and support students and families around urgent issues faced by youths   through a series of guest speakers and discussions during the school year. By bringing to light issues that affect youth mental health and well-being, celebrating our diversity and advocating for social justice, CoC works to create a healthier, more equitable and inclusive community. For more information on Community of Concern, click here

CoC is pleased to be able to share information and resources with  West Hartford Parent Community Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Groups (EDI) a group of elementary and middle school parents  that work on equity, diversity and inclusion in their schools.  In light of the recent and past acts of racism and injustice that have affected Black members of our school communities, as well as challenges the pandemic has caused and exacerbated for many families of color,  CoC and EDI would like to share this message of support and recovery. click here for message
Community of Concern  would like to echo our superintendent and principal's message:  “we will be actively antiracist in our thoughts, our actions...” and the powerful voices of our students in the June 7th Black Lives Matter Rally. We believe working to create a more equitable and just society can start by taking simple action steps that involve listening, learning, talking to each other and not staying silent. Each week we will suggest a simple action you can take.

ANTIRACIST ACTION # 2:
To listen to a very inspirational story of a 13-year old black hockey player and his family, and think about what you would do if you heard some adults cast “racial slurs” to a youth player of color in your child’s sport.

ANTIRACIST ACTION # 3:
Sign up for and take a free online one-hour bystander intervention training with Hollaback!:

“I have discovered in life that there are ways of getting almost anywhere you want to go, if you really want to go.” ~ Langston Hughes

If you have an idea of simple action to take, please email us at: conardpto@gmail.com  or  conardnews@gmail.com
Graduating seniors should check their emails and Conard social media accounts tomorrow night after the car parade! The YouTube link for the 2020 Safe Grad raffle will be posted then. Over 25 prizes will be announced including many gift cards and items needed for post-graduation. Prizes can be picked up this Thursday, June 18th from 6-8pm in the Conard parking lot . Students should bring their student ID! Congratulations again, and good luck!
