CHEA Requirements Prompt Policy Change
CAAHEP Policy Change on Confidentiality
In order to address the Council for Higher Education Accreditation concerns outlined in the most recent submission of CAAHEP's mid-term report, CAAHEP's Board of Directors approved the following changes to Policy 106 D. Confidentiality.

The changes to the Policy are indicated below in RED and took effect earlier this summer:

D. Confidentiality
CAAHEP requires that its accreditation procedures, and those of the CoAs, be sensitive to the need to maintain confidentiality in the accreditation process while also disclosing certain information to serve and protect the public interest.

In order to comply with the need for public disclosure, CAAHEP will publish the citations of unmet Standards that appear in accreditation award letters.

However, except as stated above, CAAHEP and its CoAs will hold as confidential the following documents and the information contained therein:

1. Self-Study Reports
2. Site Visit  Reports
3. All Progress Reports
4. All correspondence between CAAHEP, the CoAs, and the programs which relates to the accreditation process (including the appeals process, as applicable).

Institutions may release any of the above information, at their discretion. CAAHEP and its CoAs will not make public any of the above documents without the permission of the institution, unless the institution misrepresents the information either through public statements or release of selected sections of documents.

In the case of Probationary Accreditation, CAAHEP will release the full award letter upon request.

These confidentiality requirements shall be waived for any of the above documents when CAAHEP or its CoAs are required to turn over information by a bona fide judicial or governmental process.

If you have any questions about this policy change, please contact  Kathy Megivern (megivern@caahep.org.) An updated version of the Policy Manual is posted to the CAAHEP website.

Patricia Tritt Receives Legends That Walk Among Us Award from NAEMSE
Patricia Tritt, RN, MA, former CoAEMSP Board Member representing NAEMSE, was the recipient of the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Legends That Walk Among Us award. The award ceremony was held in Washington, DC on September 4th at the 23rd Annual NAEMSE Symposium.

The award is reserved for someone in the EMS community who has helped shape EMS education on a national level. It allows the community to thank those who have, and continue to, mentor, motivate, and inspire other EMS professionals through their commitment to EMS education.

In making the presentation to Pat, NAEMSE stated that she "is a recognized and often‐cited authority on issues in EMS education."

Pat is currently the Director of Instruction at American Medical Response in Denver, Colorado. Among Pat's many contributions to EMS, and while a member of the CoAEMSP Board of Directors, she worked on educational and professional issues that impact EMS personnel at all levels in the United States. She chaired the Quality Improvement and Assurance Committee, and was and continues to be actively engaged in the development of a new Annual Report for the CoAEMSP. In addition, Pat has been a CoAEMSP site visitor since the early 1980's and continues to conduct site visits.

The Staff and Board of Directors of the CoAEMSP congratulate Pat on this well-deserved recognition!
