On June 4, 75+ golfers desecended on Northwood Golf Course just west of Rhinelander for the 7th Annual NATH Golf Scramble. This year's Golf Scramble raised over $6,000 for NATH. Beautiful weather, amazing NATH partners and lots of fun was had by all. Thank you to the golfers, volunteers, sponsors and basket donors who helped make this event a huge success.

Several young people from the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Faith Explorers (Sunday School) group presented a check to the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing (NATH) on Sunday, June 18. The kids put their own money into an offering each week before Faith Explorers, and at the end of the year the youth decided where the money should go to. A total of $111 was raised. Presenting the check to Tammy Dye with NATH are some of the Faith Explorer students, from left, Josh Willoughby, Johanna Dellenbach, Isaiah Willoughby, Natalie Dellenbach and Haven Willoughby.

In September of 2015 it was announced that Tammy Dye had been hired as Tammy Modic’s Administrative Assistant. I had no clue who Tammy Dye was and honestly didn’t think our paths would cross a whole lot. It wasn’t until I met her that I realized I did indeed know Tammy. We had been in high school together for one year back in the 1980s. I was a meek and mild freshman afraid of my own shadow when our paths crossed while walking the halls of Rhinelander High School. What stood out was Tammy’s gregarious nature and the self-confidence she exuded. Every time I saw her she was either smiling or laughing her infectious laugh. Oh, how I wished I felt so confident. Tammy graduated when I still had three years to go, but every so often I would think of her and that laugh.
In April of 2016 Tammy began working some house staff hours to help out. We were and are so very grateful she was willing to help out. Today Tammy works close to full time hours as house staff plus her Administrative Assistant duties and fundraising events. On top of that, Tammy and her husband Jerry are raising two teenage girls they adopted after being their foster parents. They have another adopted daughter who is out on her own and have been foster parents to several children throughout the years. Tammy and Jerry also attend Vineyard Residency Class and hope to one day plant a church.
It is no secret that Tammy is a Packers fan as evidenced by the decor of our office, her car, and her home. One of the pictures on the office wall is the one you see above. I’ve often looked at it and thought of adding “Frederick Place,” because to know Miss Tammy is to know how very important Frederick Place and the people in it are to her. I have not done so out of fear of repercussion for defacing something #12 is a prominent part of. Also, I’m not sure if I would insert the words before or after the Packers. Although Tammy is the Packers’ #1 Fan, if she is needed to work during a game, she works. Residents are given strict directives to limit their inside/outside routine, and most willingly comply. A resident needs furniture brought to their new place? Tammy answers the call of duty. If Tammy overhears, “Boy, I haven’t had that to eat in a long time,” you can bet she will be making it for dinner sooner rather than later. A resident needs a little cash? Tammy will find an odd job around her house for them to do. Someone needs to chat at quitting time? Tammy stays and listens as long as that person needs to talk. When she senses one of us could use a little time off, she volunteers to work some hours for us, often without being asked. When one of us calls in sick or needs to switch hours, I’ve yet to hear Tammy say, “No,” even on a Packer Sunday. In a relatively short amount of time Tammy has become indispensable. She has worn many hats here; mom, grandma, drill sergeant, cook, top cop, confidant, mover, salesperson, and keeper of the peace. She has a huge heart and deep compassion for helping others.
A couple paragraphs up I called Tammy a Packers “fan,” but she is not just your average fan. Oh no. She is a certifiable Packer fanatic whose excessive enthusiasm and intense uncritical devotion borders on obsession during football season. I live down the street from her, and some Sundays I swear I can hear her hooting and hollering from her own living room. I’ve even gone so far as to text her and tell her to keep it down because I can’t hear my TV. I know only one other woman who shared the same level of passion for her Packers and that was my mom. With Mom it was Chester Marcol, and with Tammy it is Aaron Rodgers. Both of them yell at the TV like the players can hear them and would not think to utter a negative word when the Packers couldn’t pull out a win. During the 1998 Super bowl my mom and I talked on the phone for the whole game. That game was the last one I would share with my mom. Football has never quite been the same without her. Then Tammy came into my life again, and my passion for the game was reignited. We text during games, count down the days until training camp, and go through a period of mourning at the end of the season.
I have never shared any of what I’ve written with Tammy. I’m not sure why. Perhaps because what I had to say was not meant for an audience of one. What I do know is that Tammy entered my life again for many reasons with one in particular. That reason was to awaken the passion for the game my mom loved so much and to fill the void that has existed in me since that 1998 Super Bowl. I’ll even go so far as to say my mom had a hand in our paths crossing. Why? Because Tammy called me Lady without knowing it was my mom’s nickname for me. All who have called me Lady have ended up being a special and very important part of my life.
Thank you for all you are and all you do, Miss Tammy. You are a true blessing to me and countless others - even though you like Troy Aikman!
