From the Desk of the President & CEO

May was a full month for our community. Between end-of-school celebrations, tornado recovery efforts, and the many activities that come with closing out the school year, it has certainly been a busy season. The Chamber was honored to recognize area seniors who achieved a cumulative 4.0 GPA throughout high school and to help celebrate retiring educators who have invested so much into future generations by presenting them with retirement bells.

We are also looking forward to our Annual Banquet on June 9, where we will reflect on the past year and recognize recipients of our annual awards. One of the greatest strengths of the Chamber is the opportunity to bring people together—not only to celebrate accomplishments, but also to look ahead at what is possible for our community.

This month also brings important opportunities for civic engagement, including runoff elections and a statewide ballot question. Local participation matters, and we encourage our members and community to make their voices heard at the ballot box on June 16. Thoughtful participation and informed decision-making help strengthen both our community and the future of Oklahoma.

As we move into the summer months, I remain grateful for the opportunity to continue settling into this role and serving alongside such a dedicated business community. Earlier this year, we selected Steward as the Chamber’s word of the year - a reminder to thoughtfully care for the relationships, resources, and opportunities entrusted to us. We look forward to continuing that work in ways that strengthen both our business climate and quality of life in the greater Enid area.

Rebuild and Recover: Tornado Relief Update

Assistant City Manager, Scott Morris speaking

During the Rebuild & Recover Dinner

The Greater Enid Chamber continues to work alongside the City of Enid and our nonprofit partners to support ongoing tornado recovery efforts as community needs evolve. On May 14, the Chamber hosted a Rebuild & Recover dinner for affected residents, bringing together resources, information, and support for those navigating the next steps of recovery.

While the questions asked and resources shared were valuable, the time spent together may have been the most meaningful part of the evening. Stories were shared, connections were made, and neighbors were reminded that they are not facing recovery alone. The Chamber remains committed to supporting both the immediate and long-term recovery of our Enid residents and community.

State Question 832 Statement

After thoughtful discussion, the Greater Enid Chamber Board of Directors has voted to support a “No” vote on State Question 832. The Chamber’s position is not opposition to improving wages or economic opportunity for Oklahoma workers. We recognize many families are facing rising costs and understand concerns that the current minimum wage no longer reflects today’s economic realities. The Chamber’s concerns with SQ832 center on two primary issues: the permanent automatic indexing structure created after 2029 and the elimination of several longstanding exemptions within Oklahoma’s minimum wage law. We believe that the structure of SQ832 as it is currently written could create significant challenges for small businesses, rural employers, and local economic sustainability in communities like Enid.

We encourage our members and community to review the issue carefully and explore the non-partisan resources available landing page. We also encourage everyone to stay informed and participate in the election process on June 16.
