Where has the year gone? We’re already getting back into the holiday season again, which can be a challenging time of year for many in our community.

Hospice of Santa Barbara has many programs in place to provide support for those grieving the loss of a loved one, including an event that has become a cherished local holiday tradition over the last 35 years – Light Up a Life. Our local communities have gone through so much over the past 12 months, so we felt a responsibility to make this year’s event better than ever.

Starting this December, Light Up a Life will feature a new Montecito ceremony in addition to the annual events in Goleta, Santa Barbara, and Carpinteria. This will provide another opportunity for local residents to heal together during an emotional time of the year.

Stay tuned for more details on all of our 35th Annual Light Up a Life events.
"Allah, Allah" by Pamela Emerson
"His small voice cloaked me with unexpected comfort.
Hearing the ancient supplication - Allah, Allah
I felt a sense of gratitude to be witness
to his age-old prayer..."
Pamela Emerson moved from Cambridge, MA to Santa Barbara in 2009, after retiring from managing her classical recording studio and her work with keyboard musical instruments: restoring, tuning and maintaining pianos, harpsichords, and antique pianos. She now spends much of her time painting and has shown her watercolors at the Faulkner Gallery. She loves walking, biking and hiking in our beautiful town, and most of all, spending time with both of her sons.
"Toward Available Light" by Noelle Clearwater
"I have found my place in the light; and I have survived there, knowing that the way I have made is all the more beautiful for the poverty that nourished its own unnatural liberty..."
Noelle Clearwater is a bereavement counselor at Hospice of Santa Barbara who believes that personal storytelling, art, and poetry can be used to alleviate or redirect feelings of trauma, grief, fear, or anxiety and also to repair, restore, and heal after loss. She facilitates groups for widows and widowers and groups for those who have lost parents and siblings. She also sees individual clients. In November, she will have been with Hospice of Santa Barbara for one year.
