Labeling Patient Mobility Devices and Lift Equipment

Safety First

Employee Health is labeling all patient mobility devices and lift equipment in an effort to improve employee and patient safety. The intent is to enhance compliance with utilization and ensure best practice. In the upcoming months, you will notice two new labels placed on the equipment:

  1. Neon green label – identifies the weight capacity of that lift
  2. Red sticker – serves as a “Timeout” to double check weight capacity and sling size

We appreciate your attention to this initiative and continued efforts to support best practice.

SafetyZone Updates

Issue with questions loading

When submitting an event in the SafetyZone event reporting portal, there have been instances where not all the questions are loading on the page. When this happens, please click the ‘reset’ button at the top of the screen to reset the form and restart your event submission.

Epic

Transitioning Epic Reports

If you receive or access Epic data, please be aware of an upcoming change that will impact how some reports are accessed and generated.

Licensing and support for the reporting tool called Crystal Reports is ending and it will soon be retired. The tool has been used to generate reports that are accessible through Report2Web, BI Launchpad, or various reports in PDF or Excel format that are saved to the Y-drive.

Epic data accessed via the methods mentioned above will be transitioned to the following core data and analytics tools used at Aspirus starting in January 2023:

  • Epic Reporting Workbench
  • Epic Radar Dashboards
  • Epic Slicer Dicer
  • Qlik Sense
Important

Team members impacted by this change will receive an email to inform you of the transitioning reports for which you have access. Included in the email notifications will be a survey for you to provide information that will support the project team's transition plans and timelines. If you do not complete the survey, you risk losing access to reports after the transition occurs. Be sure to promptly respond to the survey if you receive one.

Be in the Know

Paying Invoices by Vendor Category

Effective Jan. 1, 2023

To help Aspirus prepare for our move to the new Infor Financials & Supply Management (FSM) system in July 2023, Accounting Assistants are now transitioning from paying invoices by Company or “Business Unit” to paying invoices by Vendor Category.

The Vendor Categories align with our Aspirus Supply Chain Procure to Pay process and create team synergy with specific points of contact by vendor rather than company. This will help us build vendor relationships as well as improve workflows and invoice turnaround time from Procurement to Payment.

This change does not impact the process for submitting invoices for payment.

  • Continue to send invoices to accountspayable@aspirus.org for payment. All invoices should be submitted to this central email rather than to individual Accounting Assistants.

  • Send any questions to invoicequestions@aspirus.org. In the event someone is out of the office or working on special projects, emailing to this central email will ensure inquiries are received and answered in a timely fashion.

Office of Medical Education (OME) Awards

The Aspirus Office of Medical Education (OME) is recognizing collaboration and contributions made by Aspirus Physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) as clinical teachers for medical students and advance practice clinician students. Award recipients use student, academic or clinical partnership to advance Aspirus academic clinical medicine. This is the fourth year OME has recognized these efforts throughout the Aspirus system.

This year’s Mission Award goes to Dr. Ryan Beighton from Central Wisconsin Radiologists.

Dr. Beighton demonstrates a passion for training students, recognizing it as the right thing to do to help heal people, promote health and strengthen communities.

Below is a submission by a student of Dr. Beighton.

“He was not assigned to me as an official preceptor, yet he goes out of his way to bring opportunities to me including publishing opportunities, rare cases, and procedure participation. Dr. Beighton went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and important, to educate me, to let me participate, and to provide a research opportunity for me.” - Medical Student

"A Day in the Life of a Rural Resident"

The Wisconsin Collaborative for Rural Graduate Medical Education (WCRGME) visited the Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital campus in October to create a “A Day in the Life of a Rural Resident” video featuring Alexandra Reischman, MD. She completed her rotation with Aspirus Koller Behavioral Health at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital.

Watch Video

The video will be shared with medical students (and possibly undergrads) who are considering rural medicine with the hope it will inspire them to continue down the path of rural.

Dr. Reischman attended the Ross University School of Medicine. She is in the Central Wisconsin Residency Program, PGY-1.

Update

Pain Treatment Guidelines Amended

The Wisconsin Medical Examining Board Opioid Prescribing Guideline was recently amended (12/2022). Click the link to review. Thank you to Aspirus Health’s Dr. Kris Ferguson for his contribution to these updated pain management guidelines. Dr. Ferguson is on the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board and the committee that updated these guidelines.

5 Tips to Making Resolutions Stick

It happens every year. You're jazzed in January to get in shape, stop smoking, eat better – to achieve your goal. But by February, your New Year’s resolution has gone out the window. Does that pattern sound familiar?

“Don’t throw in the towel just yet,” advises Aspirus Business Health Wellness Specialist Patrick Somsen. “You’ve got to stack the odds in your favor by starting with what intrinsically motivates and excites you. Start with small, easily repeatable actions that positively contribute to your 2023 outcome goal, and then gradually scale your way up as the small actions become routine habits.”
