Emerging Leaders Fall Session

Applications accepted through July 7

The application period is now open for the Fall 2023 session of the Aspirus Emerging Leaders program. Interested employees should be considered “individual contributors” and can apply through end-of-day on July 7. It is a two-step application process involving your manager.

Aspirus Emerging Leaders is a leadership development program designed to provide additional learning opportunities for employees who have a desire and the potential to become leaders within Aspirus. The program, while not a guarantee of future promotion, provides opportunities and challenges for those who desire advancement or want to have a better understanding of the skills needed to become an effective leader at Aspirus.

Additional details about eligibility, requirements and the fall schedule are available on the Aspirus intranet. Look for the homepage banner or the program link under the “Life & Career” menu. The online application will be accessible from this page through July 7.

Safe Patient Handling & Mobility Coaches

Be in the Know

Aspirus Employee Health & Wellness (EHW) is partnering with clinical leaders throughout our system to further advance our Safe Patient/Resident Handling and Mobility program, with the goal to positively impact these measures:

  • Reduce employee injuries, allowing improved available staffing.
  • Reduce the number of staff members on restricted or light duty.
  • Improve employee safety and work efficiency.
  • Reduce patient length of stay.
  • Increase early patient mobility, improve outcomes, and reduce falls.
  • Reduce occurrence and associated cost of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs).

To help achieve these goals, we are re-instating Mobility Coaches at each of our hospitals who will be identified by business unit leaders.

Mobility coaches are well-versed in the use of equipment, best practices, and standards surrounding safe patient handling. These individuals consistently demonstrate a passion for excellent patient care with a focus on safety and best practices to improve employee compliance and competency with equipment utilization, reduction of employee injuries, and improved efficiencies with patient care.

Cybersecurity Policies

giphy image

Aspirus has a cybersecurity program that is aligned with Health Industry Cybersecurity Practices. Aspirus cybersecurity policies are reviewed annually to ensure our practices remain updated and current as the threat landscape evolves. Our policies provide requirements, set expectations that help us manage cyber risk, and:

  • Are a key element of cybersecurity governance.
  • Help us comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Are used by auditors to assess our performance and compliance.

Our cybersecurity policies are in PolicyStat. Most cybersecurity related policies can quickly be found by searching “Information Technology” as the policy “Area.” Learn more about PolicyStat.

Education

AMG Awarded Grants to Support APC Training

Aspirus Medical Group (AMG) has been awarded a two-year grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to support advanced practice clinician (APC) training. The grant awards $50,000 to AMG in each of our next two fiscal years running from July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024, and from July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.

Aspirus has received the APC Rural Training Grant from DHS every year, starting with our FY2019. These grants support our ongoing efforts to recruit and retain APC preceptors and train APC learners within the Aspirus system as part of a long-term rural workforce development strategy.

The grants enable the Aspirus Office of Medical Education to provide stipends to teaching providers, welcome packages to each of our new APC students, and teaching awards to preceptors who are nominated by APC and medical students throughout the academic year. In Academic Year 2022, Aspirus trained 182 APC students who took part in 267 rotations.

If you are an APC or physician interested in working with APC and/or medical students – and have not had a student placed with you recently – please email the Office of Medical Education.

Nomination Period Ending for Award of Excellence

The nomination period for this quarter’s Aspirus Award of Excellence closes on June 30. Be sure to submit your nominations soon to recognize the accomplishments of physicians and advanced practice clinicians (APCs) who demonstrate the Aspirus values not only in their clinical practice, but in their daily interaction with patients, staff and communities as well.

The nomination form is available via the Aspirus intranet: Life & Career > HR & TOTAL REWARDS > REWARDS & RECOGNITION. All recognition options, including the Aspirus Award of Excellence, can be found on the right side of the page. Here’s a direct link to the form on the MedStaff intranet.

Winners are selected quarterly based on the selection criteria indicated on the submission form.

Calling All Campers: Essential tips for a safe & fun trip

Camping is an excellent way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and connect with nature. Before you make a beeline for the woods, a lake or some other idyllic camping spot, review important safety tips.

Tip #1: Be prepared. Pack a first-aid kit, along with essential supplies like a flashlight and extra batteries, bedding, food, water, sunscreen, bug spray, matches and, yes, s'mores.

“Make sure to pack your prescriptions so you don’t have a medical emergency while you’re out in the woods,” says Rachel Laszko, MD, Aspirus General Surgeon. “In case something does happen, you also want to have your provider’s phone number on hand, as well as your health insurance information.”
