Wellness Tip: Lifelong Learning

Does the back-to-school season have you yearning to learn something new? Learning doesn’t just stop once we graduate from a certain grade, school, degree or program.

Our world is changing around us at a frantic pace. A commitment to lifelong learning and personal development ensures we don’t get left behind. Successful individuals focus on gaining personal and professional skills, knowledge and abilities in response to and in anticipation of change.

Lifelong learning can consist of informal initiatives like nurturing curiosity, attending a free class or workshop, reading a book, or leaving one’s comfort zone. It can also take a more formal approach for a degree or certification.

Did you know Aspirus offers a Tuition Reimbursement benefit for employees?

The following are some benefits of lifelong learning:

  • Helps to create a stronger economy and a more equitable society.
  • Provides a feeling of fulfillment when learning is self-directed.
  • Satisfies curiosity, indulges passions, and can return you to lost hobbies. It’s really intellectual wellness!
  • Can make you more competitive in the job market and less likely to fall behind in the face of automation and the changing job landscape. Check out the Aspirus Organizational Learning & Development Professional Development page.
  • Keeps your brain healthy by forcing you to think and practice a new activity or skill. Continued learning as you age helps maintain brain plasticity, staving off illnesses like dementia.

The benefits of lifelong learning stretch far and wide, from financial gains to career advancement to increasing your overall quality of life. It is essential – get started learning something new today!
