Blog: Helping Connecticut Schools Navigate the Changing Tides of Youth Mental Health Needs

In our latest blog post, Jeana Bracey, PhD, CHDI Associate VP of School and Community Initiatives, unpacks some of the current challenges impacting Connecticut schools and their capacity to support student mental health. She shares ways the state can bolster school mental health efforts - and highlights resources available now to help schools and districts navigate to calmer waters.

The School Mental Health Resource and Support Guide from Connecting to Care provides Connecticut schools and districts with current information about the many mental health resources and supports available to them, such as the CONNECT IV Students initiative, and resources to empower youth and families.

Policy Brief Offers Strategies to Preserve Connecticut's Youth Behavioral Health Crisis Management System

As the Connecticut legislative session begins this month, we're re-sharing our recent Policy Brief on Connecticut's four best practice youth crisis services and the resources needed to sustain each one as federal ARPA funds expire.


The brief was co-authored by CHDI President and CEO Jeff Vanderploeg, PhD; Lisa Tepper Bates, MBA, President and CEO of United Way of Connecticut; Tammy Freeberg, MSW, FACHE, Senior VP of Strategy and Planning at The Village for Families & Children; and Gary Steck, LMFT, CEO of Wellmore Behavioral Health.

Sharing the Latest Research on Child Trauma

On January 29, Chief Program Officer Jason Lang, PhD presented at The Chadwick Center's 40th Annual International Conference on Child Maltreatment in San Diego. 


Lang and colleagues Dr. Monica Fitzgerald of the University of Colorado at Boulder and Dr. Ernestine Briggs-King of the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University (pictured here) provided an update on important new research on childhood trauma and children’s behavioral health from the past year, including new research on child maltreatment and suicide prevention, peer supports in children’s behavioral health, trauma-focused interventions, artificial intelligence, and more.

Welcoming New Staff

Anne Pascale

Please help us welcome Anne Pascale, LMSW to CHDI! As a Project Coordinator, Anne will primarily work on several of CHDI’s Evidence-Based Treatment initiatives, including TF-CBT and MATCH.


Anne holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Connecticut. She has previously worked in youth career development and as a school social worker at Hartford Public Schools. We're fortunate to have her on the team!

Postdoctoral Fellowship 2025-26


CHDI is now accepting applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in children’s behavioral health. The Fellow will work on one or more initiatives focused on improving children’s behavioral health in Connecticut, with an emphasis on working at the systems, policy, and practice levels.
