Just Ask! Cooper City Launched Virtual Q/A Forum
We rolled out a monthly online forum that strives to answer residents and stakeholders' questions about City services, projects, and initiatives.

Our first online "Q&A" session provided the opportunity for an update from City Manager Joseph Napoli, before opening the question and answer portion.

South Florida Under a Tropical Storm Watch
We've kicked off hurricane season with an eye on the tropics, as Potential Tropical Cyclone One moves away from the Yucatan Peninsula and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for South Florida. This means our area can expect tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours. Heavy rain and flash flooding remain the biggest threats.

To report any non-emergency incidents during and after a storm: call 954-764-4357. Examples include downed trees, street flooding, sewer spillage, traffic signal outage, etc.

Please be prepared and gather supplies. The 14-day “disaster preparedness” Florida sales tax holiday ends Friday, June 10, 2022, to purchase qualifying disaster preparedness and pet supplies.

Follow these tips and links on getting prepared. Hurricane season is June 1 through November 30.

  • Determine Your Risk, Check Your Insurance Coverage
  • Know Your Zone, Know Your Home
  • Assemble a Disaster Supply Kit
  • Have a Plan for Your Family & Business

All-Board Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony
We had the opportunity to thank and celebrate our wonderful residents who volunteer their time for the benefit of Cooper City, during our annual All-Board Appreciation Dinner. Our board and committee members exemplify what makes our hometown "Someplace Special."

Meet Our Team
Lieutenant Armenio "Al" Laviña
Lieutenant Laviña has proudly served the residents of Cooper City for six years, while working on Rescue 28 within our BSO Cooper City Fire District

Lt. Laviña, who goes by Al, began his career as a firefighter and paramedic in 1999, when he started working for the Dania Beach Fire Department. In 2011, the Dania Beach Fire Department merged with the Broward Sheriff's Office and Lt. Laviña would eventually make his way to our BSO Cooper City District.

Al says he knew he wanted to help save lives at the age of 11, after watching his father suffer a heart attack. That moment led to a career that has been filled with gratification. Lt. Laviña says the biggest satisfaction of his job is the fact that he gets to be a blessing in someone else's life.

Born in New Jersey, Al has lived in South Florida since the age of two. He is married and has two sons, ages 21 and 18. He and his wife's oldest son is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Germany. He was recently deployed near the Ukrainian border. Their younger son is an avid competitor in the Special Olympics, participating in multiple sports and even winning a gold medal in soccer.

When he's not working, Al enjoys taking on do-it-yourself projects at home, has recently taken up archery, and always loves watching sports especially football.
We Honored and Remembered on Memorial Day
We marked this Memorial Day with American Legion Post 321 and members of our community. Cooper City remembers and honors the lives of the courageous men and women of our armed forces who have fought and given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
BSO Cooper City Fire Memorial
Remembering Lt. Rick Scorgie
Members of our BSO Cooper City Fire District and surrounding districts gathered on Friday, May 27, to remember the life and service of Lieutenant Rick Scorgie, who passed away on May 27, 2005.

Lt. Scorgie joined the Cooper City Fire Department In 1986, after serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Coral Springs Fire Department. A few years later, he became a state certified paramedic and then a state certified fire instructor where he loved to teach urban search and rescue, medical classes and weapons of mass destruction training programs.

  • Cones were used to better manage traffic at the portion of SW 50th Place, where parents and guardians approach both the 2nd/3rd grade and 4th/5th grade pickup points.
  • SW 51st Place is no longer being barricaded. Parents and guardians traveling from the west, can now utilize SW 51st Place to make a left, off of SW 91st Avenue, and merge into the line.

Please Don't Park On or Near Catch Basins
Cooper City’s code enforcement inspectors take on the key responsibility of carrying out the directive to enforce the City’s Code of Ordinances. This section provides information on some of the most common code violations, while also providing information that helps keep Cooper City beautiful.

Parking Over Catch Basins
Please stay clear of catch basins, when parking on a swale. Keeping vehicles away from catch basins helps prevent street flooding and also helps us protect the environment. Vehicles parked on top of, or near, catch basins can lead to leaking fluids flowing into catch basins and harming our ecosystem.

Parking over catch basins. Except in an emergency situation, or when a catch basin is located within a driveway of a residence, no person shall park, stop, stand or leave unattended any vehicle over any catch basin located within the city.

If you have any questions about this City Code, you can contact our Code Enforcement team.
