GSGC: Community Affirmed
The coronavirus pandemic has made a few things crystal clear: the world truly is interconnected and we truly are dependent on one another. “I wear a mask for you, and you wear a mask for me,” is a touchstone phrase these days.

That’s what community is all about. Sharing common interests and social values. Like attitudes, interests and goals. Caring about the other’s welfare.

Global Sojourns Giving Circle is a community where partners come along side one another to flatten not just the COVID-19 curve, but also reduce the gap between need and comfort, between isolation and inclusion, and between materialism and wisdom.

It is a community that, even while separated by many miles and a deadly virus, transcends boundaries for the sake of humanity, for Ubuntu. Central to our work and community is that we cross national, economic and gender lines, whether we’re together or apart.

The mystery coronavirus has slowed the world. But GSGC learned long ago to slow down, to look and really see, to listen and really hear. Partners work together and learn from one another. That way, the GSGC community makes the world just a little smaller, a little kinder and a little healthier.

Mentor Community Rises Above Lockdowns
Thanks to your recent donations to buy cellphone data, the GSGC Mentor community met digitally on May 21 to support one another, strengthen their network, and share concerns and tips.

“This call really made me realize that GSGC values us and everything that concerns us,” said Mentor Mercy Sibanda of Girls Time in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Members of GSGC’s Communications Committee span three countries and two continents, but they have coalesced into a community across the miles, bringing you news of our clubs and Mentors in Southern Africa and our supporters worldwide.

GSGC lost one its earliest and most steadfast supporters in May when Win Greenwald died at the age of 92.

Win and her husband, Jerry, met Founder Priscilla Plummer more than a dozen years ago in Arlington, Va., just as she was launching GSGC. They were drawn to Priscilla’s vision and the small organization’s personal approach.

Win never lost interest in GSGC, its growth or its activities. She was as enthusiastic about wanting GSGC news as she was about life in general, always learning, traveling and getting to know people.

“She truly was a mentor to me and cheerleader for GSGC,” Priscilla said. “Always enthusiastic with a sparkle in her eye, she was full of heart, a straight shooter, and a voracious reader and student of life. Each time I talked to Win, I came away inspired and having gained life lessons.”

Win had an inner strength that got her through tough times with optimism. She was a bright light to Priscilla and a true friend of Global Sojourns Giving Circle. She will be sorely missed.
