Leopold Park - Before & After

BEFORE

AFTER

Location: Logan Township, Blair County

Project Manager: Adam J. Long, RLA

Project Engineer: Brian E. Smith, PE

Keller Engineers’ team added several ADA improvements and new amenities to the existing park. Project funding included DCNR, CDBG, and Logan Township.

High groundwater levels, significant floodplain and floodway, and poor soil infiltration were corrected through a creative stormwater strategy developed by Keller Engineers’ environmental team.

Additional responsibilities included boundary and topographic survey, site design, grading, erosion control, NPDES permitting, landscape plan, bidding assistance, stormwater management, construction administration, and water well and softener system consultation.

Throughout construction, the existing vault restroom building was demolished and a new restroom with plumbing was installed in its place. A second restroom was installed further inside the park to serve the west end. Additionally, ADA pathways were designed to provide access to existing park elements such as sports fields and courts.

The existing playground equipment was replaced in a drier location, and a train-viewing area was added. Handrails and other ADA modifications were made to an existing footbridge, and new light poles with provisions for cameras were added throughout the park.

Meet Our Team

Joan Keller...

Joan is married to Joe Keller. She has been an integral part of the company since before the doors even opened! We are thankful for

all the kind and caring things she does for Keller Engineers’ employees.

What is your favorite color?

My favorite colors are pink, blue, and green, but I probably favor shades of green most due to the beauty of the fresh green color of spring trees, bushes, and flowers highlighted in green!

What was your first job?

My first job was baby sitting for neighbors and relatives. My first real paying job was with Kaufman’s which used to be in downtown Altoona. I assisted customers with clothing, and I helped in the bridal department pinning up gowns for the seamstress. I continued working at Kaufman’s in downtown State College during my junior year at Penn State.

What is your favorite meal?

Italian food is the cuisine I enjoy most days, so probably a pasta meal with a side salad!

What do you enjoy doing most at Keller Engineers?

I would have to say I enjoy making the main office feel cozy like home. I enjoy decorating with seasonal decorations, and I do some of the heavier cleaning when necessary. I also enjoy planting flowers outside the company buildings to make the office welcoming and to help beautify Hollidaysburg!  However, I like to surprise our employees with treats on certain holidays and enjoy helping with employee luncheons and events!
