KAREN CASE'S FUNDRAISING PHILOSOPHY AND INSPIRATION
Karen Case, President & Executive Managing Director, CRE at The PrivateBank, was featured in an article that highlighted her fundraising philosophy and JDRF's annual gala, One Dream, scheduled for December 10 at Arie Crown Theater. Karen regularly raises about $350,000 for JDRF's One Dream gala. Her daughter Alexandra has type 1 diabetes. MONICA WALKER ON JOHN ROGERS' AIMS TO OPEN DOORS FOR OTHERS
Monica Walker, CEO of Chicago-based asset manager Holland Capital Management, was quoted in a Crain's article about Ariel Investments' ( Mellody Hobson) John Rogers and how he is opening doors for minorities. Ana Dutra , CEO of the Executives' Club of Chicago, spoke with Crain's about her new book, "Lessons in LeadershiT: Detoxing the Workplace," which examines how to identify and survive bad bosses. She also spoke about growing up in Rio de Janeiro, where she just competed in the Ironman triathlon, her sixth.
 
"Most of us, even the best leaders, occasionally demonstrate some of these behaviors. If you're self-aware, you will learn how to self-assess and correct. The issue starts when you don't care about getting better. When people start to label you a 'tyrant' or 'manipulator' or 'no filter,' then you are in trouble. REHABILITATION INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO'S SHIRLEY RYAN ABILITYLAB RECEIVES BIG GIFT
Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's ( Joanne C. Smith) Shirley Ryan AbilityLab has gotten another big gift. The latest, from Hinsdale resident Nancy Knowles, bequeaths eight figures to the $550 million project.

The gift will pay for the new hospital's Strength and Endurance Lab, and also underwrite "expansive" outdoor green space adjacent to AbilityLab's 10th-floor Sky Lobby. The green space will be known as Nancy's Garden. Read more...
 
LONGTIME EDWARD-ELMHURST HEALTH CEO TO RETIRE
Pam Davis, who leads west suburban Edward-Elmhurst Health, is retiring in 2017, capping one of the longest reigns of a Chicago area hospital CEO.

"I've known since a young age that I wanted to run a hospital," Pam Davis said in a statement. "Both of my parents were physicians, and I was fascinated with how everything worked as I tagged along on rounds at the local hospital. I've lived my dream job." Read more...

LORI ANDREWS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET PRIVACY

Lori Andrews is a university distinguished professor of law at IIT Chicago-Kent, whose work focuses on the challenges emerging technologies create for law. This week's issue (November 11-17) of Chicago News includes an interview with Lori ("Chicago Internet Privacy Author Speaks Out Against Social Media Home Invasion") about cyber law.

Lori spoke about how her interest in technology and cyber law has developed. She described her proposed Social Network Constitution, designed to better protect our rights in the digital age. In addition, Lori answered questions on government access to our social media accounts, why Europe has greater privacy protections, and tips for protecting our data. Read more...

ANN DRAKE SPEAKS TO KELLOGG EXECUTIVE STUDENTS
DSC Logistics CEO Ann Drake shared her knowledge and experience with executive students as a featured presenter in the Lavin Bernick Executive Chats at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, October 14.

With the vision of Carol Lavin Bernick, CEO of Polished Nickel Capital Management, this speaker series was launched in 2016 to give students an opportunity to talk with esteemed executives and civic leaders in an informal setting. The chats provide a forum for in-depth conversations around leadership.

In emphasizing the impact Ann's participation would have on the students, Matthew Merrick, Associate Dean, Degree Operations, described her professional accomplishments as "perfect examples of Kellogg's commitment to creating brave leaders who inspire growth in people, organizations and markets." Ann received an MBA from Kellogg.

On November 15, 2016, Elizabeth H. Connelly, Industry Head | Healthcare, Higher Education,  NFP at JPMorgan Chase, spoke at a Business Forum, co-hosted by JPMorgan Chase & Co. (Melissa Bean) and the Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation, which raised the issue of nonprofit capacity and broaden the base of stakeholders who are committed to advancing stronger, more resilient nonprofit organizations.  Read more...
ROBIN KELLY APPLAUDS FACEBOOK'S EFFORTS TO IMPROVE DIVERSITY AND UPDATE ETHNIC AFFINITY MARKETING
On Friday, Facebook announced that they would disable their ethnic affinity marketing tool for ads offering housing, employment, and credit. This policy change was done in response to a letter led by Illinois Congresswoman Robin Kelly - Co-Chair of the Congressional Diversifying Tech Caucus - and after similar concerns were raised by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, and various Civil Rights organizations. "I applaud Facebook's efforts to ensure that countless consumers will not be subject to unfair bias and discrimination by advertisers using their ethnic affinity marketing tool. Technological innovation must remain our great equalizer, not evolve into a means of division," said Robin Kelly. Read more...
