Kate Maehr, Executive Director and CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and Rahnee Patrick, Director of Independent Living at Access Living (Marca Bristo), recently spoke with ABC 7 Chicago (Jennifer Graves) to discuss the challenges that people with disabilities face, including food insecurity, and the resources available for those in need. MARY MEG MCCARTHY DELIVERS 2017 COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS AT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO SCHOOL OF LAW 
Mary Meg McCarthy, National Immigrant Justice Center Executive Director, delivered the 2017 commencement address at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. In her speech, Mary Meg McCarthy remarked, "I have come to recognize that defending human rights is not about partisan politics or ideology. In the U.S., respect for human rights must be the foundation of our understanding of the Constitution. If our laws harm vulnerable people, they harm all of us." MAKE-A-WISH ILLINOIS CELEBRATES MOST SUCCESSFUL WISH BALL
Laura Brown, Chair of the Make-A-Wish Illinois Board, shared news of their annual Wish Ball which was held on May 20  at Navy Pier, where more than $2.4 million was raised to grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Wish Ball's theme was "Illuminate the Journey" and the night highlighted the many impactful points of a child's wish experience for nearly 1,000 guests thanks to emcee John Stamos, his co-emcee, Maya Gray, a 14 year old wish recipient from Chicago, and numerous other wish recipients. THE HYNES CATALYST FOR TOMORROW AWARD ESTABLISHED

On June 7, the Hynes Catalyst for Tomorrow Award was established in Washington, D.C. at the Horizon Awards given by the Women in House Counsel Leadership Institute.

Coming in 2018, the Hynes Institute Advisory Board - composed of executives from 10 leading legal recruiting firms - will select 24 women to participate as Hynes Institute Fellows in a yearlong program.

ILLINOIS HOLOCAUST MUSEUM & EDUCATION CENTER TO SHOWCASE BILL GRAHAM EXHIBITION
The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center ( Susan Abrams) will open the Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution on July 16, 2017. The exhibition explores the extraordinary life of renowned music promoter Bill Graham. It also traces the indomitable spirit of a man brought to the U.S. as an eleven-year-old Jewish refugee fleeing the Nazis, fueling a lifelong passion and advocacy for social justice.

"We are thrilled to bring the story of Bill Graham's life and legacy to the Chicago area for this special exhibition. The exhibition honors the accomplishments of one individual who overcame the trauma of fleeing the Holocaust and used his life to shape popular culture and help humanitarian causes," said Susan Abrams. 
UNIVISION LAUNCHES NEW MIDDAY CAST 
Chicago's first Spanish-language midday newscast is coming to WGBO-Channel 66. Starting June 26, Enrique Rodriguez and Diana Perez will anchor "Edición Digital" ("Digital Edition") on the Univision Chicago ( Teri Arvesu) station Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. The half-hour newscast will be simulcast on all digital platforms, including live streaming online and on Facebook. "This show is a direct response to the changing needs and habits of our audiences. We must evolve with them," said Teri Arvesu, VP & Director of Content at Univision. Read more...
