Fortune's 2017 Most Powerful Women Summit took place in Washington D.C. October 9-11. Fortune MPW started as a list 18 years ago and has evolved into the world's most extraordinary leadership community, convening the preeminent women in business-along with select leaders in government, philanthropy, education and the arts-for wide-ranging conversations that inspire and deliver practical advice. ANDREA ZOPP ON NEW LATHROP COMMUNITY
Andrea Zopp, Deputy Mayor & Chief Neighborhood Officer City of Chicago, was quoted in a CBS News article about  the Lathrop  construction   project  that is finally underway for more than 1,100 new and rehabbed housing units near the Chicago River.

"Housing is foundational for us to have strong communities and neighborhoods. And without our strong neighborhoods and communities, we cannot be, and will not be, the world class city that we strive to be. This is so important - what's happening here. The work that has been done, the perseverance," said Andrea Zopp.
KELLOGG COMPANY BUYS RXBAR
Kellogg Company (Wendy Davidson) has bought RxBar, maker of a fast-growing line of protein bars, for $600 million. Kellogg's resources will allow RXBar to keep growing rapidly. The brand, which now has 11 flavors, will continue to expand its offerings and will introduce products beyond bars.  Read more...

ANNA RAPPAPORT ON PLANNING FOR SUCCESS AT OLDER AGES
Anna Rappaport wrote a piece published by  Forbes, as part of the Pension Research Council blog page, and  The Conference Board Inc. about a new Society of Actuaries (SOA) report entitled, "Post-Retirement Experiences of Individuals 85+ Years Old," which summarizes findings and includes many retirees' insights on how they manage.

ROHINI DEY ON TRAINING WOMEN LEADERS IN CULINARY ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Rohini Dey, Founder & Owner Vermilion Restaurants (NYC & Chicago) was featured in a Take the Lead blog that highlighted Rohini and  the Women in Culinary Leadership program, which she founded in 2012 through the James Beard Foundation.  The program mentors 42 women chefs.

"By creating this program five years ago to break through the barriers of the 'gastro ceiling,' the goal has been to build women's operational skills, financial literacy, confidence, and networks in the field. Empowering women on a grassroots level to create tangible progress is more vital now than ever before; especially given the glacial change in women's leadership across all arenas, whether political or the boardroom or culinary." YUAN-QING YU FEATURED IN EVANSTON MAGAZINE
In an interview with Evanston Magazine, Yuan-Qing Yu, Assistant Concertmaster & Adjunct Professor at Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Roosevelt University, spoke about her childhood, why she came to the united states, and her entering into the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 

"I think I always wanted to live a life of achievement. I don't remember exactly what I thought when I was 10, but my parents always taught me to aim high. Yes, aim big. So, I always knew I'd be a solo violinist, but I never thought about being here in the States," said Yuan-Qing Yu. Read more...
AMITA HEALTH OPENING OUTPATIENT FACILITY IN CAROL STREAM
Amita Health ( Patricia Cassidy) will open an Immediate Care and Outpatient Center in Carol Stream on October 23. The Carol Stream center will feature 42 examination rooms and provide immediate care with no appointment for minor, nonemergency conditions and injuries, such as coughs and colds, broken bones and lacerations.  "We want our services to be conveniently available in a pull-up, park and walk-in kind of setting like people are used to in retail," said Patricia Cassidy. LISA EMERICK JOINS XAPTUM ADVISORY BOARD
Lisa Emerick has joined the advisory board of Xaptum, a Chicago-based tech start-up. The IoT secure network company launched three years ago is banking on the proliferation of connected devices - for both business and consumer use - that are largely vulnerable to attack. After a successful $2m round of funding in 2016 they are getting ready to close their second round and have added Intel as a client.
