FORTUNE'S 100 BEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR 
Fortune published its list of the top "100 Best Companies to Work For." Two-thirds of a company's survey score is based on the results of the Trust Index Employee Survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. This survey asks questions related to employees' attitudes about management's credibility, overall job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the Culture Audit. THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO'S STARTUP HOTHOUSE TURNS 20

The University of Chicago (Ellen Rudnick) was featured in a Crain's article about being a hotbed for startups. In the last 20 years, the University's New Venture Challenge has produced some of Chicago's best-known startups, such as GrubHub and Braintree.

ILLINOIS ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE RELEASES "BUYER BEWARE" GUIDE

Lisa Madigan Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office released a "buyer beware" guide, which includes a list of top offenders, by category, as seen in complaints filed with her Consumer Fraud Bureau. In a statement, Lisa focused on education-related complaints. "Unfortunately, students who are saddled with crushing debt and who have been misled from achieving their goals submit regular complaints to my office," Lisa Madigan said. Read more...

JEANNE GANG TO DESIGN US EMBASSY COMPOUND IN BRAZIL
Jeanne Gang, Principal of Studio Gang Architects, was chosen to design a new U.S. embassy compound in Brazil. The project will be located on an existing 12-acre complex in the city's diplomatic zone and include a chancery, a Marine security guard residence, and perimeter security and facilities for the embassy community. NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY FIGHTS STUDENT LOAN DEBT
Northwestern University (Mary Baglivo, Sally Blount, Andrea Dunaif,
 
Janice Eberly, Vicky Kalogera, and Marilyn McCoy ) students who qualify for financial aid will no longer have to borrow to pay for their education. This news is apart of a plan to make the school more affordable and prevent students from being saddled with debilitating debt. Starting next fall, freshmen who ordinarily would have to take out loans will instead receive a combination of grants and scholarships, along with earnings from work-study and summer jobs, to cover their expenses. Current undergraduate students who already have $20,000 or more in loans will have that debt capped starting next fall, and receive a scholarship instead of having to borrow more. Read more...

MARIA HENRY TO JOIN GENERAL MILLS BOARD
General Mills has elected Maria Henry to its board of directors effective June 1, 2016. Maria currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, a global consumer products company, which she joined in 2015. Prior to joining Kimberly-Clark, Maria was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Hillshire Brands, formerly known as Sara Lee Corporation.

"Maria brings an excellent track record of financial leadership and shareholder value creation to our board," said Ken Powell, General Mills Chairman and CEO. "Her consumer packaged goods experience and her background in public and private companies will be assets as we continue to drive strong returns for General Mills shareholders." Read more...

USG Corporation, the world's leader in building materials and technologies, has promoted Jennifer Scanlon to Executive Vice President. JEANNE GANG WINS WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE AWARD
Jeanne Gang has been named Architect of the year in this year's "Women in Architecture 2016 Awards" by The Architectural Review. On accepting the award Jeanne made it clear that the study of social justice is an important one and worthy of having its own space. "In the past social justice and social justice activism seems like it's always happened in invisible places," she stated. "With this project, I feel like there's an actual building - something that embodies the idea of social justice in every way from its outside to its inside." Read more...
MARTHA TEDESCHI CHOSEN TO LEAD HARVARD ART MUSEUMS
Martha Tedeschi, longtime curator and administrator at the Art Institute of Chicago, has been selected to lead the Harvard Art Museums. Martha Tedeschi, who will take over in July, said that she was drawn to the job because of her deep interest in "how the visual and the creative and intuitive can be meaningful to students regardless of the field in which they're working and training," and that she believes that Harvard is "a campus that is so clearly ready to collaborate with the museums." SUSAN LEVY TO SERVE ON PANEL AT GENERAL COUNSEL BREAKFAST
Susan Levy, Executive VP & General Counsel of Northern Trust, will serve on a panel at Crain's Chicago Business' invite-only, General Counsel Breakfast on April 6th. Panelists will discuss their evolving roles as valued members of the management team. They will share stories of how their roles have expanded to include being a trusted advisor to the CEO and the board, as well as a contributor to the growth path of their companies.
SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY HOSTS 2016 ECONOMIC SUMMIT 
Saint Xavier University ( Christine Wiseman) Graham School of Management's held a successful Economic Summit on February 26 at the Willis Tower. There was a great turnout of 72 economic and financial professionals who came to hear the panelists. The panelists discussed the latest economic and financial trends within the U.S. market- how China's falling economy affects the U.S., inflation and interest rates, geographical impacts on personal economic growth, and Illinois budget crisis with respect to MAP grant funding.
ELAINE MAIMON TAKES ACTION TO PROTECT HIGHER EDUCATION
Governors State University (GSU) President Elaine P. Maimon is proud to announce that the GSU Board of Trustees have taken bold action during this time of budget crisis in the State of Illinois. On Friday, March 4, the Board approved a zero increase in undergraduate and graduate tuition for the next academic year. The Board also confirmed GSU's commitment to covering students' MAP grants for the upcoming year. Read more...

On Monday, March 7, GSU students held a #HigherEdMatters rally on campus. GSU students, faculty, and staff were joined by alumni and community members to send the message to Springfield that funding for higher education is essential to the economic health of the State. Joining GSU students on the platform were elected officials who  pledged to continue to fight for funding for Illinois students.
