KOHL CHILDREN'S MUSEUM POP-UP IN WAUKEGAN
Sheridan Turner, President & CEO, Kohl Children's Museum, recently celebrated the success of a month-long pilot of a pop-up museum in the City of Waukegan. She explains, "With assistance and support from Mayor Sam Cunningham, the Museum was given 5,000 sq. ft. of storefront space in downtown Waukegan in which we created a mini Museum with four different STEAM-focused exhibit areas. The goal was to bring the programs of the Museum to those in the community who need it most, at no charge. We completely surpassed our expectations by welcoming nearly 2,500 visitors, including 51 school field trips!"

The Museum is currently developing a business strategy to put similar experiences in at least three other locations for a duration of two months. Community interest is very high as this directly affects and provides much needed resources to underserved neighborhoods. If you'd like to help with these efforts or would like more information, please contact Sheridan at [email protected].

The success of the Pop-up Museum coincided with another major milestone in Kohl Children's Museum's history. The Museum had incurred $13.4 million in tax-exempt bonds in 2005 to pay for construction of its Glenview facility. Sheridan is proud to announce that as of this month those bonds have been fully retired, well ahead of their 30-year maturity date, and the Museum is currently debt-free!
