We have exciting news about Advocate Health Care and NorthShore University Health System's victory in federal court, prevailing over the FTC's effort to stop our coming together through a preliminary injunction. JEANNE GANG IN TALKS TO DESIGN DOLPHIN SANCTUARY
The National Aquarium in Baltimore announced that it will design and build North America's first "sanctuary" for dolphins. No designer has been selected, but the aquarium has been working closely for the past two years with architect Jeanne Gang, Founder & Design Principal at Studio Gang Architects. SHEDD AQUARIUM PLANS TO CUT ENERGY USAGE IN HALF
Shedd Aquarium ( Joyce Simon) recently acquired a 60,000-pound, 1-megawatt lithium ion battery that resides on the aquarium's loading dock. It is part of Shedd's Master Energy Roadmap, created in 2012 to cut the aquarium's energy usage in half by 2020. Read more...

LINDA COBERLY ELECTED TO GOODMAN THEATER'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Linda Coberly, Managing Partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Goodman Theater. Linda also serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, the largest human rights and anti-poverty organization in the Midwest. She is a Steering Committee member for the Appellate Advocacy Committee of the Defense Research Institute.

LEAP INNOVATED SUMMIT
At its first annual LEAP InnovatED Summit, LEAP Innovations ( Phyllis Lockett) hosted 150 of Chicago's education, civic, business, and philanthropic leaders, along with Governor Bruce Rauner, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool, to reimagine teaching and learning in our city.

Speakers at the LEAP InnovatED Summit included Harvard University's Todd Rose, a nationally recognized personalized learning expert, and innovation leaders from organizations including Apple, Facebook, and Redbird Advanced Learning, which is commercializing curriculum developed by Stanford researchers.

Together, they made clear the promise of innovating in education. Forrest Claypool said it best: "I have no doubt that what LEAP Innovations is leading the charge on here in Chicago is the future of education in this country."

LEAP also congratulated the winners of their first annual LEAP Innovators in Education Awards:
  • Champion - Deborah Quazzo, Founder and Managing Partner, GSV Advisors
  • Leader - Scott Frauenheim, School Director, CICS West Belden & CICS Bucktown
  • Educator - Steve McWade, Lead Teacher, Lovett Elementary School

SYLVIA PUENTE DELIEVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS
On June 6, Sylvia Puente delivered a keynote address on the "Demographic Profile of Latinos in the Midwest" at the inaugural "The Future of Latinos in the United States" roundtable at the American Bar Foundation and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Sylvia Puente, Executive Director at the Latino Policy Forum, works with over 100 leaders in the Chicago area and was named one of the "100 Most Influential Hispanics in the U.S." From 2001-2008, she was director of the Center for Metropolitan Chicago Initiatives for Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies.
THERESA MINTLE TACKLES PRESSING ISSUES AT CITY MAKERS SUMMIT
Theresa Mintle, President & CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, served as a panelist for The Atlantic's City Makers Summit on June 1 in Chicago. The event brought together Chicago's business community with nonprofits and civic leaders to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our city at this time. As a panelist, Theresa and other leaders discussed innovative ideas and partnerships that could potentially create livable, sustainable and economically vibrant communities within Chicago.
LYNN CUTLER INVITED TO 2016 DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION
Lynn Cutler, Senior Policy Advisor, has been invited as a former Officer of the Democratic National Committee to attend the 2016 Convention as a Special Guest. Lynn has previously served three terms as a Vice Chair. Lynn is thrilled to be nominating the first woman ever to be the nominee of the Democratic (or many major) party. "This is a culmination of my life's commitments. Regardless of political beliefs, I hope there is pride in our women," she said.
