CHRISTIE HEFNER AND MELLODY HOBSON ON BOARD TERM LIMITS
A recently published article featured a meeting at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit, where Christie Hefner (1979), a delegate at the summit, posed the question on whether or not term limits are needed. "Unless we see structural changes along the lines of term limits or mandatory retirement, it will be tough to move the needle when it comes to women on the boards of public companies. It has been stuck, Hefner pointed out, at around 15%."

WIFL 2016 Speaker Mellody Hobson (2000), President of Ariel Investments, and a Director at Dreamworks, Starbucks, and Estée Lauder, was also featured with her thoughts on board term limits. "There's a chemistry to a board. It takes time to build," she said. "And when you put a new board member in, it takes time to adjust." Read more...

JULIE SMOLYANSKY ON MILLENNIALS AND THE FOOD REVOLUTION
Julie Smolyansky (2007), President and CEO of Lifeway Foods, Inc., participated on a panel discussion on "The New Food Revolution" at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit. Julie believes millennials are responsible for the new food revolution. "So what (or who) is responsible for this radical shift? Millennials with a desire for transparency," said Julie Smolyansky.

Julie also notes that the future of the food industry is entirely in the hands of smaller companies, as big companies are just not as nimble. "Consumers look to us to innovate. We can make changes really, really fast. Retailers are coming to us asking, 'What's going to be the next big thing in food?'" Read more...

"It took a lot of effort from many people," Toni Preckwinkle said, "but we were able to come up with a consensus to reverse some of the laws that had such a dramatic impact on youth, especially those of color. BAIN & CO. STUDY ON GENDER AND ESTABLISHING A WORK-LIFE BALANCE
A new study from Bain & Company puts another nail in the coffin of the outdated stereotype that work-life balance is a women's issue. When Bain asked 1,500 MBA students and graduates what they want out of their careers, 50% of men and 51% of women said they plan to prioritize nonwork commitments over career progression.

Julie Coffman (2010), Partner at Bain, author of the report and chair of Bain's global women's leadership council, says the survey indicates that MBAs have jettisoned the old idea "of putting blinders on and only marching up the career ladder." She believes that men and women in the study are closely aligned when it comes to seeking balance for the future of work. "The more everyone shares this ambition, the closer we get to real change," says Julie Coffman. Read more...
