MARCA BRISTO ON ACCESSIBLE HOUSING THAT DOESN'T LOOK INSTITUTIONAL
Marca Bristo, President and CEO of Access Living, a Chicago-based advocacy group for people with disabilities, was quoted in a Chicago Tribune article about a house, under construction on Hermitage Avenue in Ravenswood, that suits disabled people without looking institutional. Designed by  Searl, Lamaster Howe Architects (Linda Searl), the house has a stucco and brick exterior punctuated by oversized single-pane windows. Hallways, bathrooms and showers are extra wide to accommodate a wheelchair.

"We've got to get over looking at things that are functionally helping us as if it's OK for them to be aesthetically problematic," Marca Bristo said. "These things shouldn't have to jump out at you." Read more...

TONI PRECKWINKLE ON DEMOLITION OF THREE COOK COUNTY JAILS
Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board President, announced the demolition of three Cook County Jail buildings. The demolition will include divisions 1, 3, and 17 of the jail, a move that is expected to save more than $3 million in building operating costs during 2017 fiscal year. Toni's goals are to increase efficiency, reduce cost through real estate, reduce the county's jail population, and save Cook County and its taxpayers money. Read more...

K. Sujata, President and CEO of Chicago Foundation for Women, was featured on the cover of Chicago Woman's December 2016/January 2017 issue. Sujata discussed her 100% Project, paying it forward and her journey to the nonprofit sector.

EMILIA DIMENCO ON HOW TO HAVE A FINANCIALLY HAPPY NEW YEAR
Emilia DiMenco , President and CEO of the Women's Business Development Center, wrote an op-ed in Chicago Woman that shared tips on how to have a financially happy new year. Emilia's tips included:

STUDIO GANG TO DESIGN ARKANSAS ART CENTER EXPANSION
The Arkansas Arts Center (AAC) has announced Studio Gang Architects ( Jeanne Gang) as the design architect for its next building project.

"Designing a re-envisioned Arkansas Arts Center is a truly exciting commission," Studio Gang founder Jeanne Gang said in a press release. "Its extraordinary collection, historic MacArthur Park setting, and rich mix of programs present a unique opportunity to redefine how the arts can strengthen local communities and surrounding regions." JEANNE GANG TO DESIGN A 36-STORY RESIDENTIAL TOWER IN ST. LOUIS
Studio Gang Architects has been commissioned to design a 36-story residential tower in the city of St. Louis. The complex at 100 North Kingshighway, and named One Hundred, will rise to 385 feet, and be significantly taller than its neighbors. Read more...
 
 
 
TCN ARCHITECTS CELEBRATE A ROUSING YEAR FROM PUBLIC SPACES TO PRESERVATION 
The following TCN member architecture firms were featured in a Chicago Tribune article, "Celebrating a rousing year, from public spaces to preservation," which highlighted how 2016 was an energizing year for the art of architecture in Chicago:  
  • Gensler (Nila Leiserowitz) - the reopening of William Le Baron Jenney's New York Life Building at LaSalle and Monroe streets as The Gray Hotel
  • Studio Gang Architects (Jeanne Gang) - City Hyde Park tower, a 14-story high-rise, and its design of the new Writers' Theatre building

CME GROUP ANNOUNCES KIM TAYLOR'S NEW SENIOR MANAGEMENT POSITION
Kim Taylor will serve in a newly created role as President, Clearing and Post-Trade Services, with responsibility for the company's clearing house, post trade and digitization businesses. Kim most recently served as President, Global Operations, Technology and Risk since 2014. She has held a variety of leadership roles in CME Clearing since she joined the company in 1989, including President, CME Clearing from 2004-2014. Read more...

BRENDA WOLF ELECTED TO ILLINOIS HEALTH AND HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION BOARD
Brenda Wolf of La Rabida Children's Hospital has been elected to the Illinois Health and Hospital Association's (IHA's) 2017 Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is the policymaking body for the Association, which represents more than 200 hospitals and nearly 50 health systems across Illinois.

"It is an honor to continue serving on the Board of such a highly reputable organization that prioritizes the health of the people in Illinois," Brenda Wolf said. "It is our mission at La Rabida to ensure that every child with special needs in Chicago receives the care that is right for them. I look forward to another productive term working alongside the bright and committed Board and healthcare leaders of IHA."

ELLEN A. RUDNICK HONORED WITH RICHARD J. DALEY AWARD
Ellen A. Rudnick, Senior Advisor & Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at Chicago Booth, received the Richard J. Daley Award, which was presented at the 2016 Illinois Venture Capital Association ( Maura O'Hara) Awards Dinner on December 5. Ellen received a standing ovation as the award was presented by Steve Kaplan. The yearly event honors the persons and organizations that have made an impact both within the association, the broader VC/PE industries and the community at large.

ADELA CEPEDA HONORED AT NATIONAL MEDICAL FELLOWSHIPS EVENT
Adela Cepeda, President of A.C. Advisory, Inc., was honored at the National Medical Fellowships (NMF)'s Champions of Health Awards dinner, where she received the Inaugural Corporate Citizen Award. This annual event recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that exemplify a commitment to creating a diverse and culturally rich work force.
