K. Sujata, President and CEO of the Chicago Foundation for Women (CFW), is on the cover of this month's Evanston Magazine. CFW provides grants and startup seed mone y to organizations that address issues which affect women and girls disproportionately. Her article, called "A Woman for Others," follows her entrepreneurial success story. It will return to the airwaves promoting ProBugs, a kefir product tailored to the children's market that comes in colorfully designed, kid-friendly individual packets. PROBIOTICS FOR KIDS
Julie released a probiotic for kids, ProBugs, back in 2004 based on the scientific findings that started emerging- and continue to emerge.
Metro interviewed Julie about the benefits of probiotics for kids and why their diets might not be enough. "Probiotics can help counter that, but also, it helps give them a stronger immune system so they don't get sick [as much] in the first place," said Julie Smolyansky. Read more...

TEST400k ASSEMBLED PANEL OF TOP LEADERS TO PRESENT THE NATION'S FIRST RAPE KIT NOTIFICATION AND TRACKING SYSTEM
On Tuesday, April 19, the founders of Test400k ( Julie Smolyansky) assembled top leaders to present the nation's first rape kit notification and tracking system and to discuss two state rape kit testing models that target a 15-30 day testing period. Discuss Two State 15-30 Day Rape Kit Testing Models. The forum was held in Chicago, the first city to adopt the rape kit.

"This is about justice for victims, but we cannot forget it is also about the potential 'next victim,' and the safety of every community. It's common sense: The faster we test rape kits, the faster we can help get serial predators off our streets," said Julie Smolyansky. Read more...

NORTHWESTERN LAUNCHES TWO VENTURE FUNDS
Northwestern University ( Sally Blount, Andrea Dunaif, Janice EberlyVicky Kalogera and Marilyn McCoy) has launched a $10 million N.XT Fund to encourage faculty and students to turn technologies developed at the university into startup companies. The primary target is to provide proof of concept for technology that's too far along to be eligible for federal grants, the primary source of funding for early stage university spinouts, but not developed enough for investment from angels or venture funds. ABBVIE DRUG GETS U.S. APPROVAL FOR LEUKEMIA 
AbbVie Inc. (Laura Schumacher) won U.S. regulatory approval for a new drug to treat patients with a rare type of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a blood cancer. The drug, venetoclax, was approved for patients with a genetic mutation known as 17p gene deletion, which is a marker for a particularly aggressive form of CLL. Read more... 
UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO TO ADD MORE CANCER SPECIALISTS IN THE SUBURBS 
This fall, more specialists from the University of Chicago Medical Center ( Sharon O'Keefe) will move to the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park to launch the U of C Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is part of a larger $270 million plan that includes an expanded adult ER and trauma center. Read more...

Jenner & Block Partner Terri Mascherin, a nationally recognized trial lawyer and co-chair of the firm's Professional Responsibility Practice, has been named a "Woman of Achievement" by the Greater Chicago/Upper Midwest Regional Chapter of the Anti-Defamation League. Terri was honored at an awards dinner on Thursday, April 7, 2016 for her pro bono work on death penalty issues and on behalf of those who have been wrongfully convicted or accused.
TONI PRECKWINKLE DELIVERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT GIRL POWER EVENT
Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board President, was the keynote speaker at the Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago's event Girl Power on Thursday, April 14th. The Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago inspires urban girls to engage in rigorous college preparatory learning in a small school focused on math, science, and technology that nurtures their self-confidence and challenges them to achieve.

SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY HOSTS MAUDLYNE IHEJIRIKA AS A GUEST SPEAKER
Saint Xavier University's School of Education (SOE) hosted a Kappa Delta Pi Society (KDP) event that included Maudlyne Ihejirika, 25-year Chicago Sun-Times veteran reporter, as a special guest speaker. Ihejirika spoke on the education beat from the 1990's to the present. She shared some important issues at the forefront today - charters vs. neighborhood schools, inequities in access/quality remaining for low-income minority students and the State's skewed funding formula. 


AURIE PENNICK HONORED AT JAMES JOSEPH AWARD CEREMONY
Aurie Pennick, Executive Director of the Field Foundation of Illinois, was honored with the the James A. Joseph Lecturer on Philanthropy award at the James Joseph Award Ceremony in Baltimore. Aurie was chosen for her contribution as a steadfast leader and architect of social justice strategies designed for ending violence in Chicago's most vulnerable communities, as well as her commitment to justice and equality.
DEB BOYDA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Deb Boyda Leads Razorfish Chicago to Award Wins
Chicago's Razorfish office recently took home two Silver awards at the Chicago American Advertising Awards (formerly the ADDYs) for their world-class digital work for Motorola. Aside from the prestige of a Silver award, the two Motorola teams will both advance to the regional competition. The American Advertising Awards is the world's largest advertising competition, with over 40,000 entries annually in local competitions.

Additionally, Razorfish Chicago's Motorola Team also secured a Bronze in the "Best in Technology" category at the Shorty Awards. The Shorty Awards seek to honor the best of social media by recognizing innovative influencers, brands and organizations. The Chicago office is led by Razorfish Central Region President Deb Boyda.

LIBBET RICHTER ON HOW NONPROFITS CAN LEVERAGE AN ANNIVERSARY TO MAXIMIZE IMPACT
Libbet Richter, President of The Richter Group, addressed the West Suburban Philanthropic Network on April 21 at the Robert Crown Center for Health in Hinsdale, Illinois. Her topic,  Celebrating Your Milestone Anniversary: Inventive Ways to Increase Visibility and Impact, focused on how nonprofits can leverage an anniversary to maximize impact among donors, clients, staff and  community stakeholders.
LORI ANDREWS CONSULTS FOR NEW TELEVISION SERIES
Lori Andrews served as a consultant for Steven Soderbergh's new television series The Girlfriend Experience, which premiered on April 10th on STARZ. It stars Riley Keough (Elvis Presley's granddaughter) as a Chicago law student who becomes a high-end escort. Lori read all the episodes in advance for comment, was on set in Toronto and Chicago, and attended a premiere in Los Angeles.
ANNE SAUNDERS MOVES TO NAPA AND THE WINE INDUSTRY 
Anne Saunders has accepted a new job running the US operations of a UK based wine company, Naked Wine. Naked Wine invests directly in winemakers, and then sells those wines directly to wine lovers. AMERICAN MUSEUM OF WOMEN'S HISTORY SURVEY 
The Congressional Commission to Study the Potential for an American Museum of Women's History ( Maria Pesqueira) is seeking your valued input.

The Commission is tasked by Congress to present a report to Congress in November 2016 addressing the threshold question of whether or not a museum dedicated to women's history in America is needed, and if so, what might be the content, where might the museum be located and how might the museum be financed amongst other important questions.
The goal of the Commission is to answer these questions in the most inclusive, feasible, and thorough way possible. The Commission plans to solicit ideas and input from women of all ages and walks of life, in addition to leading authorities and experts on women's history, professionals from the museum and curatorial fields, prominent American women, and influential women's organizations from across the country.
