DUCK DUCK GOAT NAMED AMONG 19 BEST RESTAURANTS IN CHICAGO BY CONDÉ NAST
Duck Duck Goat Star chef Stephanie Izard's
newest restaurant opening, Duck Duck Goat , is only a year old and already one of the hardest tables to snag in the city. The restaurant is part ode to Stephanie's childhood memories of Americanized Chinese takeout, part deeply-researched riffs on the cuisines of Chengdu, Beijing and Shanghai. Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Congressman Steve Chabot (R-OH) and members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs introduced H.R. 2408, the Protecting Girls Access to Education Act, which ensures that children, specifically young girls, are able to receive an education when displaced by conflicts overseas.

"This bill matches our international aid investments with our values - protecting children and helping them learn, grow and succeed - while supporting U.S. and global peace and security," said Robin Kelly. Read more...
VERMILION HOSTED PANEL WITH THE JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION
A recent panel discussion hosted at Vermilion Restaurant,  with the James Beard Foundation, Choose Chicago and World Business Chicago, focused on "Global Cities, Soft Culinary Power." Culinary soft power references the use of culture, in this case restaurants, to gain economic benefit, political influence, international prestige, and power.

The panel included Rohini Dey, Andrew Zimmern of the Travel Channel, chef Daniel Boulud and restaurateur Stephan Starr. Read more...

MARY MEG MCCARTHY RECEIVES ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO AWARD
Mary Meg McCarthy, Executive Director of National Immigrant Justice Center, a program of Heartland Alliance, received an award on Monday, May 8 from the Archdiocese of Chicago at its Keep Hope Alive immigration benefit for her work providing legal services to immigrants in our communities and advancing immigration reform.

UNIVISION CHICAGO NEWS TEAMS TAKE HOME SEVERAL PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS
Univision Chicago News teams under the Leadership of Teri Arvesu took home several prestigious awards, including four Peter Lisagor awards and the Studs Terkel award at the Chicago Headline Club awards dinner. The awards recognize the best of Chicago journalism and are named for Peter Lisagor, the Chicago Daily News' Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976. The 2017 Studs Terkel Award winners are talented journalists who tell compelling stories across platforms.

Carrie Hightman, EVP & Chief Legal Officer of NiSource Inc., was the keynote speaker at the Ohio Women's Bar Association annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio on May 11th. In addition, NiSource was just named the top utility in Forbes magazine's list of America's Best Large Employers, which ranks the top 500 employers across 25 industries. KATHLEEN YOSKO ON FORMATIVE MOMENTS
Marianjoy President Kathleen Yosko, was the featured speaker at The Executives Breakfast Club Oakbrook on Friday, May 5. The interview format focused on Kathleen's 40-year healthcare career as a clinician, patient advocate and CEO of two rehabilitation hospitals. The audience was interested in learning about her unique style of transformational leadership and incorporation of values based principles, which ultimately led to the financial turnaround and national recognition of both Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital and Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, now part of Northwestern Medicine.
