K. Sujata was praised in a Chicago Tribune article about how she is impacting gender bias. The article also notes that at the recent Advancing Equity for Women and Girls of Color Summit, Sujata's group joined a handful of other women's organizations to pledge $100 million over the next five years to promote economic security for low-income women and their families. The $100 million pledge is intended to fund job training programs, child care options, and state and federal research on how to best increase economic security for low-income women, particularly women of color. Kate Maehr, CEO of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, is featured is FW: Chicago online. The piece examines how Kate is paying it forward by taking on the hunger issue and helping people break the cycle of poverty. RUSH UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER BUILDS NEW OUTPATIENT CENTER  
Rush University Medical Center ( Anne Murphy) is planning to build a $500 million outpatient center just east of its main hospital tower, reining in care that is currently spread across the hospital system's Near West Side campus. The nine-story, 620,000-square-foot tower would be the second major structure built as part of Rush's overarching plan to upgrade its campus and bring it into the future of health care and patient treatment. The first major structure, a butterfly-shaped patient tower along the Eisenhower Expressway, cost $683 million to build and started accepting patients in January 2012. Read more...

MBIA PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT: LOIS SCOTT ELECTED TO BOARD
MBIA released an announcement this week regarding Lois Scott's recent election to its Board of Directors. She will serve as a member of the Audit Committee. 

Lois is President of Epoch Advisors LLC, a private financial services company that advises clients on strategic business issues.  Most recently, from May 2011 to May 2015, she served as the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Chicago.  As CFO, she had financial oversight of essential City services as well as O'Hare Airport, Midway Airport, the City's public-private partnership contracts, water and wastewater systems serving over 5 million people, and City-issued debt.

MARYJANE WURTH BECOMES CHIEF STRATEGY AND RELATIONSHIP OFFICER AT AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION
Maryjane Wurth, President and CEO of the influential Illinois Hospital Association, is leaving after six years on the job for a national role. In late January, Maryjane will become chief strategy and relationship officer at the Chicago-based American Hospital Association and president and CEO of Health Forum, the AHA's business development arm. The AHA's members include about 37,000 individuals and around 5,000 hospitals, health systems, networks and other providers, according to the organization's website. Read more...

Ingredion Incorporated and Ilene Gordon were recognized on November 19th by the Women's Forum of New York at the third biennial Breakfast of Corporate Champions for achieving 40 percent female representation on the board. GOVERNORS STATE UNIVERSITY HONORED BY UNIVERSITY BUSINESS MAGAZINE
Governors State University (Elaine P. Maimon) is being honored by University Business magazine in its Winter 2015 Models of Excellence edition for its Dual Degree Program (DDP), a partnership with 17 Chicago-area community college partners, including the City Colleges of Chicago, which creates a seamless and structured pathway for community college students to complete both their associate and bachelor's degrees. GSU is one of only 17 colleges and universities nationwide named by the program, which honors colleges and universities that have implemented innovative, effective initiatives that are bolstering student success.

STRITCH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE RAISES $900,000 AT 65TH ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER
More than 800 guests gathered at the Field Museum on November 21, 2015 for the 65th Annual Stritch Awards Dinner. The event garnered more than $900,000 to benefit Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine ( Linda Brubaker) and medical education scholarships for Stritch students.  The dinner was led by co-chairs Judi Duchossois and Herta Cuneo. A highlight of the evening was the conferring of the Stritch Medal to Mamdouh Bakhos, MD, FACS, professor and chair of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Loyola. A skilled cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Bakhos has played a pivotal role in making Loyola's Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery one of the most respected in the nation. The night also honored 18 high school members of the Stritch Junior Service League who contributed 3,500 volunteer hours to four social service agencies during their summer break.
At the event Mamdouh Bakhos, MD, FACS, received the Stritch Medal from Linda Brubaker, MD, FACS, dean and chief diversity officer at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
SUE BETTMAN KEYNOTE AT 2015 WOMEN OF INFLUENCE FORUM 
Sue Bettman, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Chief Compliance Officer, RR Donnelley delivered a keynote address titled "Managing My Own Game" at the 2015 Women of Influence Forum on December 1st. Sue is a proud Peorian and graduate of Kelly Avenue Grade School and Bergan High School (now Peoria Notre Dame). She began her career doing odd jobs at her father's law firm, Sutkowski & Washkuhn Ltd., and worked summers at Lou's Drive-In, first as a "car hop" and later as day manager. Today, she leads all legal and risk management functions for RR Donnelley, overseeing more than 50 employees, including lawyers, contract, insurance and intellectual property professionals and paralegals. LA RABIDA DRESS EVENT
For the ninth year, La Rabida Children's Hospital (Brenda Wolf) patients will be treated to holiday dresses donated by Frankie's on the Park, a trendy North Side teen boutique, on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m . Teen volunteers from Frankie's will visit the South Side hospital to offer patients fashion tips and finishing touches.

Approximately 25 teen and tween patients with chronic illnesses and disabilities, along with La Rabida staff and Chicago area high school students will join in the holiday spirit of giving.
THE 50 MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES 2015
For the tenth time since 2005, the Boston Consulting Group has probed the priorities of global innovation executives. The research revealed the 50 most innovative companies. The list, published this week in Fortune online, is based on a survey of 1,500 C-suite executives, who were asked to rank companies across industries and within their own industry. It also gives weight to total returns to shareholders over five years. 
 
The BCG survey uncovered that the importance of speed in business innovation is on the rise, with executives citing overly long development times as the biggest obstacle to innovation. It also noted the changing role of technology across industries.  The following TCN member companies were ranked in the top 50 Most Innovative Companies:

SAINT XAVIER STUDENT AWARDED WITH THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AWARD  
Each fall, an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree-granting institutions of higher learning in Illinois is awarded the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award and thereby becomes a Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. This year, Anna Goldman was selected as Saint Xavier University's (Christine Wiseman, President) Student Laureate.
In the spirit of Lincoln, Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. The 41st Annual Student Laureate Award Ceremony was held on Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Hall of Representatives at the Old State Capitol in Springfield. Governor Bruce Rauner, president of the Academy, was invited to present the awards. Each Student Laureate was presented the following in recognition of outstanding achievement: The Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Medallion; a certificate of achievement; and the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award in the amount of $1,000. Reporting to and partnering with Kate Maehr, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, The Vice President will lead strategy towards achieving the goal of reducing hunger in our community through strategic partnerships, collaboration, policy change and grass roots advocacy. A collaborative leader, the Vice President will lead teams overseeing public policy, advocacy, specialized programming, community partnerships and relationships. S/he will ensure the ongoing development and effectiveness of the team by making available adequate tools, systems and training on a consistent basis to carry out work effectively.
