STEPHANIE IZARD TO OPEN GIRL & THE GOAT LOS ANGELES
Stephanie Izard, Executive Chef & Owner, Boka Resturant Group,
announced to Food & Wine that her award-winning restaurant Girl & the Goat will be expanding to Los Angeles. Slated to open in the Arts District in the summer of 2019, Girl & the Goat L.A. will be both Stephanie's and Boka Restaurant Group's first restaurant outside of Chicago.
 
"I have always been envious of chefs in California for the long growing seasons and bounty of produce. I'm excited to finally have an opportunity to approach the Goat's menu with all that California's produce has to offer," said Stephanie Izard. Read more...
MACARTHUR FOUNDATION INVESTING IN CHICAGO NEWS ORGANIZATIONS
The MacArthur Foundation (Julia Stasch) is investing millions of dollars in helping Chicago's journalism industry produce and disseminate accurate, just and inclusive news.  The Foundation is shelling out $2.4 million in grants to support four local organizations: City Bureau, Free Spirit Media, Chicago Public Media ( Goli Sheikholeslami) , and the Field Foundation. CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE'S GALA 2018 RAISES $1.6 MILLION
Chicago Shakespeare Theater ( Barbara Gaines) celebrated GALA 2018 on Friday, June 8, raising $1.6 million for the Chicago Shakespeare in Classrooms and Communities initiatives, which includes the Theater's nationally recognized education programs and free citywide Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour.
 
Under the leadership of Barbara Gaines, Artistic Director,Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the theater has redefined what a great American Shakespeare theater can be, putting forward a company that delights in the unexpected and defies theatrical category. Read more...

MCDONALD'S TO TEST ECO-FRIENDLY STRAWS IN U.S. BY YEAR-END
Francesca DeBiase , Executive Vice President of Global Supply Chain and Sustainability, McDonald's, was quoted in an article about 
McDonald's plan to test eco-friendly straws in the U.S. later this year. McDonald's says that the tests will take place at select locations in the U.S. There are also plans from the company to test out these types of straws at stores in France, Sweden, Norway and Australia.
 
"McDonald's is committed to using our scale for good and working to find sustainable solutions for plastic straws globally. We are testing straw alternatives in other countries to provide the best experience for our customers. We hope this work will support industry wide change and bring sustainable solutions to scale," said Francesca DeBiase. Read more...
OLD COOK COUNTY HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT KICKS OFF WITH CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING
Toni Preckwinkle, Board President, Cook County, was joined on Tuesday, June 12 by a host of elected officials, numerous stakeholders and members of the developer team for a groundbreaking ceremony for the restoration and redevelopment of Old Cook County Hospital. 

The redevelopment project will lead to the end of the 16-year vacancy for the 104-year-old Beaux Arts landmark, which for decades was lauded for its medical innovations and its work as a teaching institution. Read more...

MARIA WYNNE SPEAKS ABOUT LEADERSHIP GREATER CHICAGO AT CABINET MEETING
Maria Wynne, CEO, Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC), was invited to speak at Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle's Cabinet Meeting on Thursday, June 14. In addition to speaking about LGC's impact across Greater Chicago, the Fellows Program experience, and the application process, Maria also shared insights on the traits of the leader of tomorrow per research the organization has conducted and implements in the classroom. Toni thanked Maria for her remarks and encouraged members of the Cook County Cabinet to apply to the LGC Fellows Program. To date, more than 30 Cook County leaders have completed the LGC Fellows Program, including Chicago Network members Kim Foxx and Bridget Gainer
