MARGO GEORGIADIS ON WINNING OVER GENERATION ALPHA
Mattel CEO Margo Georgiadis was quoted in a Fortune magazine article about Mattel's plan to win over Generation Alpha. "We have to figure out a way to integrate the two," said Margo Georgiadis, referring to the tech found in devices vs. toys. "Generation Alpha has very different expectations for the entire world. Everything that's going to happen in their lives needs to be visual, on demand, adaptive, in demand, and we have to find a way to embed that into our toy experiences." Read more...

CELENA ROLDAN ON CHICAGO'S LOW BLOOD SUPPLY 

The American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois reported 700 fewer blood drives across the United States during the July Fourth week than the weeks before and after the holiday, leaving only a four-day supply of blood on hand to serve the region, according to Celena Roldan, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois.

"This is significant," Celena Roldan said. "What it essentially means is blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in. People have to remember that blood can't be stockpiled, and it needs to be replenished on a regular basis."

SUZET MCKINNEY SPEARHEADS ECONOMIC GENERATORS FOR ILLINOIS MEDICAL DISTRICT
Illinois Medical District Executive Director Suzet McKinney was featured in an Bisnow article about the work she is doing in the Illinois Medical District (IMD). Her efforts include reclaiming 40 acres of undeveloped land to serve the IMD's mission of being an economic generator for Chicago, Cook County and Illinois, while complementing the missions and real estate activities of the four anchor hospitals. The site will eventually be home to over 1 million square feet of office, retail, apartments and a hotel and is the first major non-healthcare development in the Illinois Medical District.

WHY LURIE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IS EXPANDING
Lurie Children's Hospital ( Michelle Stephenson and Kary McIlwain) is launching a high-profile fetal surgical center - one of only a few in the world - and, separately, beginning a $51 million project to add 48 beds for critically ill kids and newborns. Meanwhile, executives are gearing up to pitch a second expansion phase to the board later this summer. "We've really created a crown jewel of an academic medicine center," said Lurie COO Michelle Stephenson.

GINGER EVANS ON CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION PROCEDURE CHANGES 
The City of Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Ginger Evans was quoted in a news article about the Chicago Department of Aviation's decisions to let Chicago police officers take the lead in responding to disturbances and to remove the word "police" from the uniforms of non-police security officers.
 
"We are confident that these actions are necessary to guide our department forward, while improving clarity for the aviation security officers," Ginger Evans said in a news release. Read more...

Currently having touched more than 1500 lives, the Sister Accord Tea Party stopped in Chicago and honored Andrea Zopp, Deputy Mayor and Chief Neighborhood Development Officer for the City of Chicago.

MARIA WYNNE AND ANNE PRAMAGGIORE ON HOW LEADERSHIP IMPACTS INNOVATION
On July 12, Leadership Greater Chicago CEO Maria Wynne participated in the "Innovation from the Top" segment at the Chicago Innovation Summit, which included CEOs interviewing each other about how leadership impacts innovation. Maria interviewed Anne Pramaggiore, CEO of ComEd and LGC Fellow since 2009, about why innovation is important to a regulated business and what needs to be done to help more women gain leadership positions. Immediately following, Anne interviewed Maria about what she sees as the next revolution for LGC and what makes LGC a success. Jennifer Scanlon, CEO of USG, was also featured in a separate segment. CHICAGO FOUNDATION FOR WOMEN AWARDED $1 MILLION MACARTHUR FOUNDATION GRANT
Chicago Foundation for Women (K. Sujata and Alysia Tate) has received a $1 million, four-year grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Julia Stasch) to advance basic rights and equal opportunities for women and girls through leadership development, capacity building and community education.

"This grant is an investment in the future of CFW," President and CEO K. Sujata said. "The challenges facing women and girls will not be solved overnight. These additional resources will strengthen CFW's capacity and help us continue to fight for generations of girls to come. We are grateful to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for its confidence in CFW's vision and continued leadership in the movement for gender equity."
SINAI HEALTH SYSTEM AND UNITED WAY OF METROPOLITAN CHICAGO RECEIVE GRANTS TO CURB CHICAGO VIOLENCE
In a move to help reduce the cycle of violence gripping the city of Chicago, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago has awarded the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago ( Wendy DuBoe) $425,000 in grants to support several community organizations offering multi-faceted approaches to violence prevention. Funded through the Shure Charitable Trust, the grants will support the work of Sinai Health System ($175,000), the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago ($150,000) and the United Way Neighborhood Network Initiative ($100,000), with United Way serving as administrator of the funding.

"Morbidity and mortality from gun violence are two dramatic examples of health care disparities disproportionately impacting communities of color," said Karen Teitelbaum, President and CEO of Sinai Health System. "To address this public health crisis, our law enforcement system, social service agencies, community organizations and schools need evidence-based solutions that reflect the needs of Chicago's communities." ILLINOIS MANUFACTURING COMMUNITY COLLABORATE ON AWARDS CEREMONY TO RECOGNIZE LEADERS OF MANUFACTURING
mHUB, IMEC and UI LABS have announced the inaugural industry awards ceremony that will take place on October 18, 2017 at the Wintrust Grand Banking Hall in Chicago to recognize talent and achievements in manufacturing.

The Fourth Revolution Awards celebrates regional manufacturing for its leadership and innovation as the industry stands on the brink of a new technological revolution. The ceremony culminates in the presentation of eight awards to deserving leaders, companies and industrial initiatives that have made significant contributions to the Chicago region's manufacturing ecosystem.

"These awards will recognize programs, companies and individuals from a cross section of the manufacturing ecosystem," said UI LABS Chief Executive Officer, Caralynn Nowinski Collens. DSC LOGISTICS ANNOUNCES 2017 THINKERS AND MOVERS AWARD WINNERS
Leading logistics and supply chain management company DSC Logistics ( Ann Drake) announced the recipients of the 2017 Thinkers and Movers Award. The awards, presented on July 19, recognized individuals whose innovative leadership has impacted supply chain thinking and practices. DSC Logistics established the Thinkers and Movers Award in 2009.

Galvanize Chicago kicked things off in Chicago at McCormick Place on July 15th and 16th by arming women with the tools and resources they need to keep organizing and fighting for gender equity. Valerie Jarrett, Former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, and Tina Tchen, Former Chief of Staff to Michelle Obama, Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls, spoke at the event and served as its Honorary Chairs.
