EMILIA DIMENCO ON OPENING DOORS FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Emilia DiMenco, President and CEO of the Women's Business Development Center, published a piece in the February issue of fw about the benefits of obtaining certifications. She also shared three tips to ease the process.

"Most state and local governments are committed to awarding contracts to women-, minority- and service-disabled veteran-owned companies. They have requirements to award a certain percentage to small and diverse firms. The business opportunities are significant, but before you can compete for contracts, you must go through a certification process to document your status." Read more...

TOP WOMEN IN FOOD IN CHICAGO
Chicago is one of the premier culinary destinations in the world. The February issue of fw featured 20 women who have made their mark on the local food scene. Several TCN members were among the 20 women listed, including Rohini Dey, Dee Robinson, and Carrie Nahabedian.

"I would suggest counseling women on investing, becoming financially literate, and building strong 'external' (confidence, leadership, allies) skills, if they want to excel," said Rohini Dey, founder and owner of Vermillion.

"2016 should be an exciting year with a focus on growth and scaling up the company," said Dee Robinson, President and CEO of Robinson Hill, "The reimagining of the airport will bring new revenues new partnerships, new jobs and enhanced serves.

Carrie Nahabedian, chef and co-owner of Naha and Brindille, shared some words of wisdom on how women should handle themselves in the kitchen: "Just gain respect by showing what you can do." Read more... 
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO TAKES ON HEALTH DISPARITIES
Linda Brubaker, Dean and Chief Diversity Officer at the Stritch School of Medicine Loyola University Chicago, recently wrote an article for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) about Loyola's commitment to health disparities. CHICAGOLAND CHAMBER ANNOUNCED MARGO GEORGIADIS AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR 2016 ANNUAL MEETING
The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce announced that Margo Georgiadis, President, Americas for Google, will serve as the keynote speaker during its 112th Annual Meeting on June 7, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

ERNST & YOUNG AND MISSION PROPELLE EMPOWER ELEMENTARY GIRLS
On Friday, February 19, a team of women leaders at Ernst & Young (Kath Carter, Kelly Grier and Kym Hubbard) partnered with Mission Propelle for a half-day Q/A yoga session with young girls to support Mission Propelle's mission -- to empower elementary-age girls to know who they are, what they believe, and how to advocate for themselves. Kath Carter, Partner, Transaction Advisory Services Leader at Ernst & Young, participated in the yoga session.
JOANNE MOFFIC-SILVER ANNOUNCEMENTS
FEATURED IN NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL
The National Law Journal wrote an article about Joanne Moffic-Silver role's as General Counsel & Executive Vice President of CBOE Holdings. CBOE HOLDINGS TO BE HONORED
CBOE Holdings Inc. was selected as an exemplary in-house legal department in the Corporate Compliance category in the Chicago region by The National Law Journal and Legal Times. An event recognizing all Legal Department of the Year honorees, as well as Chicago Litigation Department of the Year honorees, will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at University Club of Chicago, 76 E. SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE MATHLAB
Saint Xavier University ( Christine Wiseman) and Morgan Park High School (MPHS) officially launched an innovative MathLab at MPHS on Tuesday, February 16 in an effort to prepare students for their first collegiate mathematics course. The MathLab will consist of two SXU math professors training four MPHS math instructors on implementation of SXU's highly successful MathLab. Additionally, SXU professors will train MPHS on how to utilize the selected software as well as assist them in developing processes for selecting, monitoring and assessing all student learning progress. SXU students will also be trained as mentors for the before and/or after-school programs. Read more...
