Nearly 50 Attend Real Estate & Housing Task Force Meeting
On September 30, nearly 50 members of the WCA's Real Estate & Housing Task Force met virtually to discuss the implementation plan of the newly released Affordable Housing Initiatives chapter of the WCA Policy Playbook. This diverse group of public and private stakeholders will spend the next 6-12 months providing educational forums and continue to cultivate partnerships to addressing the urgent need for diverse and affordable housing stock for the regional workforce. Important State Program Alert:
'Shared Work' lets you keep staff and avoid layoffs
New York State Senator Shelley Mayer and WCA President & CEO Michael Romita joined the New York State's Department of Labor for a live webinar on the Shared Work Program and how it can support businesses, including assisting them during slow periods or when they're reopening after a COVID-19 pause, and helping them to avoid layoffs of employees, which in turn enables employees to retain their fringe benefits, like healthcare and pensions. WCA Receives Workforce Grant from Entergy Foundation
The WCA has recently been approved for a $7,500 workforce grant from Entergy Foundation. The grant, which will be manged by Jason Chapin, director of workforce development, will be used to help 25 Westchester Community College (WCC) students in their Respiratory Care program pay for their exams and licenses. Most of the students are first generation college students and had to overcome many obstacles to complete the program during the pandemic. With the expenses taken care of, the WCA will help students find jobs at local hospitals.

PKF O’Connor Davies recently announced that Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck & Company, a certified public accounting firm located in Hauppauge, New York, has joined the Firm. Led by co-managing partners, Joseph Ferreira and Jeffrey Davoli, the Long Island firm brings nine partners and 45 staff to the PKF O’Connor Davies team and expands the Firm’s presence in the area. RM Friedland, the commercial real estate brokerage in Westchester and Fairfield County, has expanded by establishing an office brokerage division. The company had considered venturing heavily into office brokerage for some time but it wasn’t until long-time commercial office broker Chris O’Callaghan agreed to join the firm that the pieces fell into place.
