Message from Chief Crowell
Dear Waterloo Region residents,
Happy New Year!
I want to take a moment to look back on 2022 and thank you for all you’ve done in contributing to a safe Waterloo Region.
It is a tremendous honour and a privilege to serve as your Chief of Police.
In the year ahead, I look forward to what we can achieve together. Our members are dedicated to ensuring Waterloo Region is one of the safest communities to live, work, and visit. I am immensely proud of their care for our citizens, their compassion, and their commitment to public safety.
As we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of WRPS in 2023, we are focused on building a police service that keeps pace with one of the most rapidly growing and diversifying regions in our nation. We will continue to strive to become the most efficient, innovative, and collaborative police service in Canada.

Family Violence Project Announces Walk-In Support Service for Victims of Intimate Partner Violence
In partnership with The Family Violence Project, we are pleased to announce the addition of a walk-in support service for individuals experiencing intimate partner violence.
The walk-in service aims to provide barrier-free access for survivors of intimate partner violence seeking support and resources, such as police reporting, safety planning, family supports, access to shelter services, and counselling.
Located at Carizon (400 Queen Street South in Kitchener), the walk-in service is available on Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“As a founding member of the Family Violence Project, the Police Service remains committed to supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and their families, as well as holding offenders accountable. Intimate partner violence has no place in our community,” said Staff Sergeant Jamie Brosseau of the Intimate Partner Violence Unit (IPVU) at the WRPS.

WRPS is alerting the public after receiving several reports of distraction theft-related incidents across the Region of Waterloo.
While these fraudsters will take advantage of anyone, it appears that the suspects are targeting females over the age of 60 years old.

January is Tamil Heritage Month, a celebration of the contributions that Tamil Canadians have made to Canadian society.
We appreciate the work of community partners, like the Tamil Culture Waterloo Region, whom we join together in celebrating the richness of the Tamil language and culture, and the importance of educating and reflecting upon Tamil heritage for future generations.
Happy Tamil Heritage Month to those celebrating.
