Police Services Board Announces
New Chief of Police

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board has announced the appointment of Deputy Chief Mark Crowell as the new Chief of Police of the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS).

“The selection of Chief Designate Mark Crowell comes after an extensive search and we are pleased to welcome him as the seventh Chief of the Waterloo Regional Police Service,” said Board Chair Karen Redman. “Chief Designate Crowell has proven himself to be a progressive, innovative and inspirational leader, whose compassion and commitment for not only WRPS, but the Waterloo Region community, makes him the ideal solution-focused leader required to usher in a modern vision of community safety.”

Chief Designate Crowell is a 22-year-member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. He has served as the Deputy Chief of Police – Administration & Member Services for the past two years where he oversaw areas including Human Resources, Finances & Assets, Information Technology, Special Projects, Administrative Support, Professional Development and Respect in the Workplace. Prior to this, he served as an Inspector and Executive Officer to the Chief of Police, where he oversaw the expansion of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit and the establishment of the Public Information Unit.

Officers Seize Two Loaded Handguns, Bear Spray, Baton, and Drugs in Cambridge

On October 5, 2022, the Drugs and Firearms Unit arrested a male on an outstanding warrant in Cambridge. As part of the investigation, officers located and seized two loaded handguns, a baton, bear spray, and a large quantity of currency.

Community Connection
We were honoured to attend A.B.L.E's (Association of Black Law Enforcers) 30th Anniversary Scholarship Awards Gala hosted by Peel Regional Police.

It was a beautiful evening honouring their legacy of advocacy and action.
We are gearing up for that time of year! Acting Chief Goodman stopped by the Waterloo Knights of Columbus to talk about what the annual Toy Drive means to WRPS.

On October 15, 2022, members from our Community Engagement Unit and Auxiliary Unit had a great time at the Cambridge Fire Department's open house!

Happy to be there alongside our emergency service partners to share about we how we work together to ensure community safety.
On October 27, 2022, members attended our annual pancake breakfast in support of United Way Waterloo Region.

Thank you for giving back to those in need throughout our community.
Take Your Kid to Work Day

On November 2, 2022, we welcomed students from across Waterloo Region for Take Your Kid to Work Day for a great day of learning and fun!

We hope to see some of you back one day as a new recruit!

Service Overview for September 2022

Our members are committed to keeping Waterloo Region safe, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Last month, more than 1,800 road safety charges were laid and a number of illegal weapons and drugs taken off the streets.

If you suspect crime is happening in your neighbourhood, please call us.
Trivia Challenge
A driver can be charged with stunt driving if a police officer observes them:
a) Driving in a manner that indicates an intention to chase another vehicle
b) Cutting a person off/slamming on the brakes while someone is tailgating you
c) Driving in excess of 50/km/hr over the posted speed limit
d) Stopping or slowing down to interfere with another vehicle
e) All of the above

Owners of passenger vehicles, light duty vehicles under 3,000 kg, motorcycles and mopeds must renew licence plates every one or two years, usually before your birthday.
