Allocation for Period A-179

The allocation for Period A-179 ( October 23 to December 17, 2022) was set by the Chicken Farmers of Canada Board of Directors on July 12, 2022 at 6.5 % above base as follows (in KG LIVE weight.)

Canada

Domestic: 281,591,015

Market Development: 8,852,167

Specialty (BC, AB and ON): 2,297,781

MD as compared to domestic 3.14 %

Specialty as compared to domestic: 0.82%

British Columbia

Domestic: 38,519,585

Market Development: 1,616,917

Specialty:1,360,416

Total: 41,496,918

MD as compared to domestic: 4.20%

Specialty as compared to domestic: 3.53%

6.5 % over base nationally yields 6.0 % to BC under the current CFC allocation agreement and the recovery agreement to eastern Canada for periods A-163 and A-164.

The pro-rata allotment for BC growers is set at 102.92%.

The BC Farm Industry Review Board recently dismissed a stay application to a licensed broiler grower who failed to follow a BC Chicken Marketing Board order to move birds inside. Read more here.

Pricing for Period A-177

The pricing orders for quota period A-177 (July 3 to August 27, 2022) have been posted on the BCCMB our website here.

BCCMB Long Term Pricing Model

The BC Chicken Marketing Board has engaged the services of a project manager and a consultant firm to do the survey work and collect cost data. the chicken pricing Cost Recovery Model (CRM) project and a Read our recent project update to BC FIRB here.

Due to the continued threat of avian influenza, the BC Poultry Association recommends all growers continue to practice enhanced (red) level of biosecurity.

Metro Vancouver Land Use Survey

From June 7th to September 16th, Metro Vancouver Regional District, the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the Partnership for Water Sustainability in BC are completing an Agricultural Land Use Inventory (ALUI) in Greater Vancouver. They will be driving a silver Mitsubishi Outlander (Plate CH6-59L), a B.C. government vehicle, or a rental vehicle with “Ministry of Agriculture” magnetic placards. These vehicles will be making frequent stops to observe farmland.

Crews are navigating public roads and observe the land from within the vehicle, often with binoculars to map crops, irrigation, natural vegetation, buildings, livestock facilities and farm practices. Read more here.
