Funding Opportunities
Prepare for Extreme Weather
From May 23 to June 14, 2023, BC farmers can apply for cost share reimbursement up to a maximum of $35,000 to help address each of the following extreme weather conditions:
1. Wildfire
• FireSmart Critical Infrastructure Assessment (required, up to a max of $2,000 per applicant.)
• Farm Building Retrofits
• Critical farm structures upgrades
• Addressing vegetation and combustible materials
• Farm Structures Sprinkler Protection
2. Flood
• Planning, designing and building fill pad(s) for farm buildings
• Well protection
• Improved on-farm fuel storage
• Flood resilient storage for feed and other farm products
3. Extreme Heat
• Improved barn cooling systems
• Enhanced livestock watering to mitigate heat stress

Agricultural Clean Technology Program
From June 1 to June 21, BC farmers can apply for funding to purchase and install clean technology or equipment upgrades. The program will provide $25,000 to $2 million per project. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will share the cost to a maximum of 40%, with the farmer contributing a minimum of 60% for projects in the following three areas:
1)    Green energy and energy efficiency, such as:     
  • Energy-efficient heating systems for barns
  • Energy-efficient heat pumps
2)    Precision agriculture, for example:
  • Technologies to reduce fertilizer use
3)    Bioeconomy solutions that use ag waste to generate energy or bio-products including:
  • Technologies to support improved manure management and processing
  • Solutions that use agri-based products such as bioplastics

George Komorowski 1937-2023
George Komorowski passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the age of 86. George was an active member of the BC poultry industry for more than 61 years, retiring from Ritchie Smith Fees on February 15, 2021. We send our sincerest condolences to George's family, friends and colleagues.
