Allocation for Period A-184

The allocation for Period A-184 (July 30 to September 23, 2023) was set by the Chicken Farmers of Canada Board of Directors on May 10, 2023 at 3 % above base as follows (in KG LIVE weight.)

Canada

Domestic: 290,476,998

Market Development: 7,047,750

Specialty (BC and ON): 2,271,701

Total: 299,796,449

MD as compared to domestic: 2.43%

Specialty as compared to domestic: 0.78%

British Columbia

Domestic: 40,220,933

Market Development:1,081,000

Specialty: 1,258,263

Total: 42,560,196

MD as compared to domestic: 2.69%

Specialty as compared to domestic: 3.13%

3% over base nationally yields +2.24 % to BC under the current CFC allocation agreement and the recovery agreement to eastern Canada for periods A-163 and A-164.

The pro-rata allotment for BC growers has been set at 107.80%

Allocation Setting Periods for A185 and Beyond

Chicken Farmers of Canada directors will set the allocation for A185 on June 13 and the allocation for A186 on August 15. At the August meeting, they will decide whether to return to setting allocation for two periods every second meeting or continue setting allocation for one period at every meeting.

Funding to Prepare for Extreme Weather

From May 23 to June 14, 2023, BC farmers can apply for cost share reimbursement up to a maximum of $35,000 for each of the following extreme weather conditions:

1. Wildfire

• FireSmart Critical Infrastructure Assessment (required, up to a max of $2,000 per applicant.)

• Farm Building Retrofits

• Critical farm structures upgrades

• Addressing vegetation and combustible materials

• Farm Structures Sprinkler Protection

2. Flood

• Planning, designing and building fill pad(s) for farm buildings

• Well protection

• Improved on-farm fuel storage

• Flood resilient storage for feed and other farm products

3. Extreme Heat

• Improved barn cooling systems

• Enhanced livestock watering to mitigate heat stress
