The  Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation , in collaboration with the  U.S. Commercial Service , hosted an international trade seminar in El Centro for area businesses looking to increase their international sales and effectively compete in foreign markets. The two-day event, which began on April 18th, included tours, panel discussions, and presentations on a variety of trade-related topics including market opportunities, logistics, financing options, and assistance and resources available to help businesses expand globally.

The  San Diego CITD  and  Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade  (DSNGT) were awarded a grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Division of Economic and Workforce Development to develop an apprenticeship program for the  Cargo and Freight Agent  occupation. The Supply Chain and Logistics Apprenticeship Program (SCLAP) is a State-approved program that combines paid on-the-job training with classroom lessons. The grant awarded to the San Diego CITD/DSNGT covers the cost of taking these courses for apprentices, including books and materials. There are also incentives for employers that participate in the program.
