The  San Diego CITD Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade  (DSNGT),  Deputy Sector Navigator for Advanced Manufacturing  (DSNAM),  CTE Regional Pathways Program , and  San Diego County Office of Education  organized a professional development event for local educators interested in better understanding advanced manufacturing and global trade in the region, and learning about career opportunities for their students in these growing industry sectors. Participants included teachers and workforce development professionals from Southwestern College, San Diego City College, South County Community School, Monte Vista High School, Helix Charter High School, Victoria Community School, Juvenile Court & Community School (JCCS), San Ysidro High School, San Diego High School of International Studies, Monte Vista High School, San Diego City College Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies, and San Diego County office of Education.

MEXPORT  is the Southern California/Baja California region's premier industrial trade show promoting sourcing opportunities with major manufacturing facilities in Baja California. Organized by the  Otay Mesa Chamber of Commerce  for the last 29 years, the industrial trade show typically draws more than 180 exhibitors spanning everything from industrial equipment companies to freight forwarders and customs brokers from both sides of the border.

The  Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation , in collaboration with the  U.S. Commercial Service , hosted an international trade seminar in El Centro for area businesses looking to increase their international sales and effectively compete in foreign markets. The two-day event, which began on April 18th, included tours, panel discussions, and presentations on a variety of trade-related topics including market opportunities, logistics, financing options, and assistance and resources available to help businesses expand globally.

The  San Diego CITD  and  Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade  (DSNGT) were awarded a grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Division of Economic and Workforce Development to develop an apprenticeship program for the  Cargo and Freight Agent  occupation. Sample job titles in this occupation include: Cargo Agent, Documentation  Clerk, Freight Broker, Logistics Coordinator, and others.

The Supply Chain and Logistics Apprenticeship Program (SCLAP) is a State-approved program that combines paid on-the-job training with classroom lessons. Apprentices in the program will take courses from  Southwestern College's International Logistics and Transportation Program  while working full-time. The grant awarded to the San Diego CITD/DSNGT covers the cost of taking these courses for apprentices, including books and materials. There are also incentives for employers that participate in the program.
