URISA GIS Leadership Academy - Virtual Edition
Our inaugural virtual GIS Leadership Academy in August exceeded expectations, and the demand for the training is off the charts, so we're doing it again during the week of November 9!

We are already at 65% capacity for the November GLA, so please don't wait too much longer to reserve your spot.

"Having now attended many virtual meetings/conferences, your application of the technology was excellent. I think the virtual academy is very valuable and the reduced costs were the only way I would have been able to attend. I will recommend to colleagues."

"The highest value was the excellence of the instructors! Their ability to convey their experience and lessons-learned over their career were invaluable. Next were my fellow students, their participation and questions and experience were also invaluable. Great content, exercises, etc. Overall one of the best and most valuable trainings ever."
We have three in-person Academies on the calendar in 2021:
  • Minneapolis, Minnesota - June 7-11, 2021
  • Portland, Oregon - August 16-20, 2021
  • St. Petersburg, Florida - November 8-12, 2021

GIS-Pro 2020 - A Virtual Success!
We started with pre-conference workshops and heard amazing keynote addresses from Governor Martin O'Malley, FEMA's Chris Vaughan, and NGS's Juliana Blackwell.

We learned about the evolution of the Johns Hopkins' COVID-19 dashboard, redistricting, GIS ethics, racial equity & GIS, and so much more.

We hosted topic-driven meet-ups and informal networking events, and wrapped it up with post-conference workshops. It was a whirlwind! But the preliminary reviews were extremely positive. Hopefully you joined us!

We're working on video edits and will distribute access to all of the recorded sessions to registrants in the next couple of weeks so you can revisit your favorite sessions and catch those you may have missed. The platform will be available for several months.

Thank you again to the conference committee, speakers, sponsors, and attendees for a great experience!
Introducing a New Webinar Series
The Vanguard Cabinet and Professional Education Committee are proud to collaborate on a new webinar series featuring the finalists from the Vanguard Cabinet’s 2020 University Student and Young Professional Digital Competition.

The first webinar in the series will be presented by Joy Christine Nduta Kimani, a university student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. Her presentation A Look at Teenage Pregnancy Cases in Kenya showcases her research on adolescent pregnancies in Kenya. Her research explores the impacts of teen pregnancies on the health of the mothers and offers strategies for reducing teen pregnancies. Tableau is utilized to share the story of teen pregnancies in Kenya via data visualizations.
