December 15, 2022
Bonjour,
Tomorrow, the final afternoon before the break, we will host our Winter Performance from 2-3 pm. Families are welcome to gather in the South Freeport Church Community Hall directly across the street from L'Ecole. A performance from some of our Suzuki musicians will precede the chorale performances from each age group of EFDM students. After the show, you are welcome to return to school and dismiss your student. Please check in with your child's teacher before leaving. We hope to see you for this special community event before the long winter break!
As a reminder, there will be no school Monday, January 2nd, in observance of New Year's Day. We will return to school Tuesday, January 3rd.
Oh, what fun our first Ice Arena Friday was! The sign-up link can be found below if you'd like to join for the two other occasions. We also look forward to attending all three Sugarloaf Fridays this winter, thanks to family interest! Details can be found below, and as always, don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
As we continue into the winter season, please remember to do your part in caring for our community. Thank you for keeping your student home when sick and taking extra precautions.
Thank you for taking the time to read on!

Best wishes to our beloved Director, Emily, who will be leaving on maternity leave at the start of the winter break. We will all be on pins and needles awaiting the happy news of the arrival of Emily's bundle of joy!
While Emily is out, the school thanks Laura Piehl for stepping in to substitute for Emily in the office. Head of School, Willy LeBihan, and the entire EFDM team look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year! Have a wonderful vacation!!

Petite Section students had a special adventure to Wolfe Neck Center earlier this chilly week to explore the animals and learn more about their IB unit on the life cycles of various species. It was fun to get out of the classroom for the morning-- Thank you to all parents who helped chaperone and make this event possible!

Kindness Corner - Tales from Home?
|
|
Our Kindness tree at school is growing leaves of
courage and gratitude thanks to our awesome students!
As we enter our two-week vacation, we hope you will keep the Kindness Calendar for December in mind. If you have noticed your student acting on their Kindness learning while at home, we would love to hear about it! In the new year, we hope to share some home testimonials of how kids put their Kindness into practice outside the classroom. Thanks for spreading the joy and keeping us posted!

What is the Learner Profile?
|
|
What is the Learner Profile?
At the heart of the IB is the “learner profile,” a long-term, holistic vision of education that puts the student at the center of everything we do. The learner profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century. The ten aspirational qualities of the learner profile inspire and motivate the work of teachers, students, and schools, providing a statement of the aims and values of the IB and a definition of what we mean by “international-mindedness.”
The learner profile unites us all with a common focus: the whole person as a lifelong learner. It applies to all – student, teacher, parent, administrator, and the community – for we are all continually learning.

The French School of Maine is an Approved Candidate School* for the PYP, pursuing a 2023 authorization as an IB world school. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for students.
* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
