Nov. 10th, 2023

Bonjour,

We are delighted to recall last week's fabulous Halloween Parade! We want to thank our hosts during the event: the Bernard, Brewer, and Ellis families! Enjoying a final stop at the Village Market before returning to school was also a special treat. Thank you to all parents, siblings, and grandparents who accompanied our students and staff on the frigid but sunny and bright afternoon. We know how much the students appreciate this fantastic community event and had a truly "spooktacular" time.

A few reminders this week at November's debut: today, we have Parent Teacher Conferences on the Early Dismissal Day of Friday, Nov. 10th, which will also be Picture Day for students in attendance during those morning hours! Upcoming next week is the second chance to join us for showcases in the Petite, Moyenne, and Grande section classes!

Please read on for more, from the classrooms, the elected Parent Representatives to the School Council, and an opportunity to help Freeport Community Services as the holidays approach.

As always, please get in touch with the office with any questions at office@frenchschool.me

Merci beaucoup!

Emily and Willy

Conference times will also be tightly scheduled, so please stick to the schedule. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Progress Reports were sent home earlier this week for your review. Please let us know if you have any questions. Merci!

Halloween Celebrations

The sun felt wonderful as we paraded together through the neighborhood this week even in some frigid temps. Thank you to all our parents and relatives who came out to celebrate-- especially those who brought out their truly awesome costumes!

We couldn't have had such a successful parade without our fabulous hosts: The Bernard Family, Brewer's Marine, The Ellis Family, and the Village Market. We thank you so much for making the parade extra sweet!

Such fun! Until next year!

School Council Parent Reps 2023-2024

It was a very close election with some truly wonderful nominees! Congrats to this year's elected representatives, Caroline Foust-Wright, Delicia Nineza, and Mary Thomas! Representatives will reach out surrounding the school council meetings to gather feedback and questions from the community at large. Thanks so much to all for nominating and voting! We look forward to the first meeting with the new members.
The School Council is a group of staff, administration, and parents who meet a few times a year to discuss student life and connect.
Merci beaucoup!

Peek Into the Classrooms

Automne & Toutes les Couleurs

We recently went for our autumn walk in the Petite Section and used knowledge from our first IB unit to make land art faces. It was fun to use objects that we found in nature to make art! In the classroom, we have been learning the names of body parts in French and how many of each we have. We are also making a book based on a classroom favorite, Toutes les Couleurs. The students have been doing afantasticwork, bravo!

PenPals from France

The CE2 & CM1 classroom recently received a letter from their correspondent class in France (their pen-pals)! The students in France asked a lot of questions about school life in Maine (what recess was like, what they were up to in their classes, etc.) and they shared with us more about them (for example, we discovered that they don't have school at all on Wednesdays!) Our students answered their questions in a response letter, which they walked to the post office to send back! We can't wait to have our next answer and to see more of the similarities and differences between the two French schools!

Freeport Community Services - Thanksgiving Drive

In years past we have loved having L'Ecole be a special donation site for Freeport Community Services' annual Thanksgiving Program Food Drive. Please take a look at the details below for items requested this year! You can leave any non-perishable donations in the glass entryway of the school until November 17th. After this date, you may bring your donated items directly to FCS. Merci!

Picture Day Friday, Nov. 10th

Don't order your holiday cards just yet! We are thrilled to share that Danielle Peterson will return this year to capture memorable portraits of our growing students. Danielle will spend the morning of the upcoming early release day Friday Nov. 10th on school grounds with her camera. Individual and sibling portraits will be taken for all. In addition, Danielle will share photos with families soon for purchasing photo packages. Be sure to dress your best!

COVID-19 Protocols

The graphic chart below indicates what you need to do if your child is exposed to or contracts COVID-19. These protocols are subject to change. We will publish updates in this newsletter should they occur.

To help keep our community healthy:
Should your child be exposed to COVID or experience symptoms, please test before coming to school.
