New grant program launches for winter outdoor dining
New Castle County is launching a $300,000 grant program for restaurants to help them serve customers as the weather gets colder. Restaurants of every size can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to purchase heaters, awnings or other equipment to ensure they can serve customers outside as the weather gets colder. The program is being administered through a partnership with the Committee of 100 and is funded through the federal CARES Act. Officials announced the program at Caffe Gelato in Newark on Wednesday after it was passed by New Castle County Council. To see video from the launch event, CLICK HERE. County offering six pop-up testing sites next week
New Castle County will offer six pop-up testing sites next week, in addition to the fixed sites offered by the State of Delaware. Fixed sites can be found at Walgreens, State service centers and some physicians offices, every weekday during normal business hours. As a result of community demand, New Castle County will operate pop-up sites with evening hours. Any resident can get tested regardless of symptoms and tests are quick, easy and painless. County Exec helps hand out over 50 rain barrels at Paper Mill Park
New Castle County delivered over 50 rain barrels to county residents at Paper Mill Park on Friday as part of a new program that offered the barrels at a discounted rate. County Executive Matt Meyer was on hand to help load the barrels for those picking up their orders and installed one of a pair of new barrels at the park near the rain garden to help direct flow from a pavilion rooftop to the garden. Connections opens new treatment facility near Port Penn
County Executive Matt Meyer joined other officials for the grand opening of the new "Penn Place" Connections group home near Port Penn on Wednesday. The 4,500 square-foot facility will provide housing for individuals with mental health issues and/or developmental disabilities with incomes below 30% of the area median income. The new facility expands Connections' ability to serve individuals who have higher needs in the area.
